River description
Shosha is a typical small rivulet in central Russia. It takes place in the Tver region, and also partially affects the region of the capital of our homeland. It takes its beginning on the Moscow Upland. In the past, the river was considered the right tributary of the river. Volga, now flows into the Ivankovo reservoir. The area of its basin is more than three thousand kilometers, and its length is 163 kilometers.
The Shosha river is quite winding, the banks are steep but not high, covered with aspen, willow and alder, on the border of the Moscow and Tver regions the banks are covered with pine forest. The river is clean and transparent, flows through picturesque places and carries water through gorgeous floodplain valleys and forests.
The food of the river is snowy. It starts to freeze in early December, opens in April. Shosha has several dams, and in addition to different types of fish (bream, chub, roach, gudgeon, ide), beavers and crayfish live in its waters.
Water becomes light from the beginning of May (visibility up to two meters), and in the first months of autumn, transparency reaches three to four meters.
How to get there
In order to get to Shoshi, you need to follow the Moscow-Riga highway for about a hundred kilometers. At the traffic police post in Volokolamsk, you need to turn to the city of Lotoshino (the most environmentally friendly area of the region). Here at the second traffic light go right and keep on reaching the village called Mikulino (about 25 km).
An excellent road awaits you throughout the journey, but you should not accelerate along it, since there is a possibility of getting into the disguised trap of workers of the striped baton.
Shosha - a favorite place for fishermen
The Shosha River (Tver Region) offers a comfortable leisure option for men - fishing. It is popular not only among local fishermen, but also among fans of seats with a fishing rod from Moscow (just a stone's throw from the capital to the river). Here crucian carp, pike, bream and other fish species are found in abundance. According to local fishermen, if you are lucky, you can meet pikeperch, ide and even sterlet. However, it is important to remember that sterlet is a fish listed in the Red Book and should not be mined.
Often whole fishing camps are built on this fish river, and sometimes real sporting fishing tournaments are held.
One should only bear in mind that the lower reaches of the river are located on the territory of the Zavidovsky reserve, and fishing here is possible if there is a permit issued by the management of the reserve.
Shosha River Tourism
River rafting is what extreme tourism in Tver is known for. Here, the upper reaches of the Volga and Msta rivers, the Mologa and Mezha channels, the shipping section of the Western Desna are offered to rafters and kayaking enthusiasts. On small boats you can go to local reservoirs and lakes.
Among kayakers, the rivers Tvertsa, Volga, Medveditsa are very popular. Alloys on them are very interesting and fascinating. The routes offer insanely beautiful views, magnificent landscapes, make people rejoice and love nature.
The Shosha River allows rafting only on small vessels. On it, tourists can go on boats and fishing boats, make their way through the lost world, where the river will appear before their eyes in all its glory: wild, untouched nature, forests, clean air.
Shosh River for fans of hunting
The entire Tver region is a land of coniferous and mixed forests, and the Shoshi coast is no exception. The common fishing fauna here are ungulates:
You can meet hares and wolves. The river itself is rich in waterfowl, there are beavers.
However, one should not forget that in certain months hunting here is limited to bans. The shooting of animals from the Red Book (underground vole, black throat loon, stork, gray goose, whooper swan) is always prohibited under the ban.
Spearfishing and fishing
Recently, spearfishing has become an integral part of life for many men, and many amateur fishermen come to the Shosha River to hunt here in a diving suit with an underwater gun in their hands. The transparency of the water in the upper river near Peni, Konoplevo, Tatarka villages, even on rainy days, is not less than 1.5 meters and is perfect for fishing under water.
The old-timers of these places often tell different stories about the huge fishes that they had to meet. According to them, such individuals enter Shoshu from the reservoir and the Volga.
The method of hunting in these places is to search for fish along the coast. The main prey is the chub, the most common fish in Shosh after perch and roach. It can be seen literally under each bush. Fish with a hawk-colored, unpretentious, allows you to come close to yourself.
If you cross the river and drive towards Nesterovo, you will find yourself in a favorite place for vacationers and fishermen. Previously, there was a dam, and after its discharge a hole was formed with a sandy shore and a bottom, fifty meters wide. Here you can catch bream, zander, pike. It is better to hunt in late autumn or early spring, the rest of the time in these places is too crowded. Here, Shosha is bewitchingly beautiful, especially in the summer, when there are many water lilies in the water. Standing on a steep bank, overgrown with centuries-old pine trees, you can dizzy to admire the landscapes that open your eyes.
Forest tracking
The Shosha River and the Shoshinsky Forest, located on its banks, attract berry growers and mushroom pickers. Here you can pick strawberries, blueberries, in some places, if you try hard, you can find lingonberries and even cranberries. Also, people come here to stock up on rose hips for the winter. All these berries are not only tasty, but also very healthy. Thanks to them, you can well strengthen your immunity and forget about colds for the entire period of cold weather.
In the fall, in places where Shosha flows, it is very pleasant to walk with a basket, since it will never remain empty. Mushroom pickers are mainly collected here by boletus, chanterelles, porcini mushrooms, sandboxes, and oleagins.
Shosha River: camping with tents
Among the tents, rest on the shore of Shoshi is also in demand. They practice their own tourism here. Behind the village called Pominovo, the river banks have many shallows and sandy beaches. It is in these places that you can often find tent camps. People come here for a few days and live in a friendly tandem with nature.
Despite the rafting, the Shosha River (the photo of which can be seen in this article) is very clean and warm. Therefore, in the summer months you can comfortably swim in it, diving with a mask.
The only caveat is that access to the river is difficult. And before you go here to relax, it is better to prepare the route in advance and study the path to Shosh.
Basically, people who prefer not to leave their cars drive up to the river from the side of the village of Turginovo, there is a good exit to the shore and a place where you can put up a tent.
What else to do while relaxing on the Shosh
The Shosha River is a vacation not only for hunters and fishermen. If you have to visit the places where it flows, then here you can try yourself as a climber and work out skills on the heights of the Firovsky region, cavers will be interested in visiting the Staritsky catacombs.
