The most famous peacekeeping contingents are part of the United Nations peacekeeping force. Their stated goal is to prevent threats to peace and security. Permission to use them is granted by the UN Security Council. Peace can be enforced by a show of force or a military blockade. They can be applied strictly in those cases (in any case, so declared), when diplomatic and economic measures have been exhausted. These peacekeeping forces attach great importance. A holiday was established in their honor - the International Day of the Peacemaker. And in 1988, these forces were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Usually the phrase "limited military contingent" is voiced - and it is always tied to the phrase "peacekeeping mission." But the stated goals are not always true.
