What are antistatic floors for?

Antistatic floors consist of a copper tape woven in the form of a mesh, a conductive layer with filler and a primer. Top they are covered with a special polymer conductive layer. They are resistant to alkalis, water-acid solutions, fuels and lubricants and mechanical pressure exerted by carts and vehicles with plastic and rubber wheels.

Application area

Antistatic coating is applied to the mineral base, which should have sufficient compressive strength and humidity within 4%. This can be a rigid plastic or cement-sand screed, mosaic and ordinary concrete. The base can be pre-prepared using special formulations. The scope of such floors is quite extensive:

  • electrical industry;
  • food enterprises (dairy, flour mills, bakeries);
  • distilleries ;
  • oil refining and chemical industry;
  • military facilities;
  • aviation sphere (production and storage of equipment);
  • production of drugs;
  • medical institutions.

Such a coating is optimally suited for facilities with high requirements for cleanliness and explosion hazard. It has gained the greatest distribution in laboratories, where antistaticity and resistance to chemical attack are of particular importance.

Features

Antistatic floors have a glossy, even, elastic surface, on which there are no joints and seams. They are characterized by a high level of mechanical resistance, wear resistance and electrical conductivity. They are also not affected by vibration and shear loads. The coating can hide cracks and damage in the base with a size of not more than 0.5 mm. However, it does not absorb moisture, and contaminants are removed using conventional means.

Due to the fact that antistatic floors prevent the occurrence of electrical discharges, there is no likelihood of breakdown of electrical devices and violations in their operation for this reason. Therefore, dust particles are not attracted to the surface, which greatly simplifies maintenance and cleaning.

The glossy coating is available in various shades, so everyone can choose the appropriate option. Arrangement is also possible in unheated rooms. Most often it is chosen due to vapor permeability, intrinsic safety, hygiene and the absence of emitted odors.

Bulk floor

This coating option is often used when arranging premises. It is divided into several types, among which there is also an antistatic floor, which is characterized by many positive properties. These include protection against chemical, mechanical stress, contamination and moisture.

The antistatic bulk floor, as its name implies, also prevents the appearance of static electricity. This is what ensured its distribution at industrial and military facilities.

Linoleum

Antistatic linoleum is indispensable in rooms with a lot of electronics. It can often be found in manufacturing and automatic telephone exchanges. There are several types of floor coverings, classified by resistance parameters. This category includes material with a resistance of at least 109 ohms. The current-scattering coating is characterized by an indicator of 107 ohms. Conductive material has lower values.

When moving along a special linoleum, an electric discharge occurs, which is within 2 kW. This is achieved by adding special components in the manufacturing process - threads or carbon particles. Also, to obtain additional properties, current-scattering ingredients and graphite are used.

The use of linoleum

With an increase in the conductivity characteristics, the dependence of the material properties on water, which is a conductor of electricity, decreases. That is, it becomes clear that antistatic linoleum is suitable for use in any room. It is the best option for flooring in child care facilities, laboratories, medical rooms. It is also desirable to use it in facilities where there is a high risk of fire from an electric discharge and there is a large number of high-precision equipment.

In addition, antistatic floors are often used in banking departments, medical facilities, recording studios and computer clubs. Linoleum of this type belongs to the category of special, it is distinguished by the presence of additional characteristics of conductivity, anti-skid, strength and wear resistance. It is also worth noting the existence of rolled rubber material, which is often mistakenly considered linoleum. This coating has a two-layer structure, current-scattering properties and the ability to connect to the ground loop.
