Nizhny Novgorod is a completely stunning city, standing on two rivers - the Volga and the Oka, and having behind its shoulders a rich and long history, officially continuing from 1221. Once, Nizhny was rightly considered the third capital of imperial Russia (after St. Petersburg and Moscow). In those days, the Nizhny Novgorod Fair functioned successfully, which was attended annually by hundreds of merchants and merchants of good. Then, they could only dream of a transport system that is functioning in the city of two N now, and even then such engineers hardly thought of that time.
Nizhny public transport today
Now, in Nizhny Novgorod, dozens of bus, tram and trolleybus routes, as well as the two-lane system of the Nizhny Novgorod metro, the cable car (the longest in the world in length over the water surface), the ferry and airport for domestic and selectively international flights, are successfully operating.
Tram system of Nizhny Novgorod
It began its work on March 8, 1896. In the 80s and 90s of the 20th century, the development of the city tram network stopped, although until this moment the local administration closely monitored this type of transport, the tram system developed and grew. However, at the end of the 20th century in Nizhny Novgorod, preference was given to the visible βpromisingβ type of public transport - the trolleybus. In the 2000s, several more routes were closed, and in 2008 the truly historical route line of trolleybus No. 1 was destroyed: from the Moscow railway station to the Black Pond. So, trolleybus number 1 has retained only part of its historical path.
Currently, the city is served by thirteen tram routes, which, in turn, are operated by three tram depots. There are also several regular and sightseeing tram routes.
