The Pyramid of Cheops

The Cheops Pyramid, the largest pyramid in the whole world, is located in Giza. The pyramid is one of the seven wonders of the world that could almost completely survive to our time. Presumably, the construction of this work of art lasted 20 years, and began in 2560 BC. Vizier Hemiun is the architect of this pyramid, and was the nephew of the pharaoh himself. Until 1300 A.D. it was the tallest building in the world - the height of the Cheops pyramid today is 138.75 meters, previously it was 146 meters, but several stones fell from its top due to numerous earthquakes.

At the base of the pyramid lies a square, with each side equal to 227.5 meters. More than 2 million stone blocks were spent on the construction of the pyramid, with each block weighing more than two tons. American scientists made calculations, during which it was possible to establish that significantly less material was spent on the construction of Christian churches in England than on this pyramid.

The Cheops Pyramid, the size of which is really amazing, is one of the main attractions in Egypt. On each side of the world its faces were oriented, while the angle of inclination relative to the base is 51 degrees. Some stone blocks are so perfectly aligned with each other that an attempt to push a knife blade between them was unsuccessful. There are no decorations or inscriptions inside the pyramid.

Cheops’s pyramid was originally coated on the outside with a special material, thanks to which its surface became perfectly smooth. But over time, this unique coating has almost completely collapsed and today tourists will be able to see the material that was used to build this pyramid. The interior of the pyramid was beautifully decorated with decorative stones, bright paint covered the walls of the pyramid, but today there is practically no trace left of it.

The Cheops Pyramid has one single entrance, which is located exactly on the north side, and its height is 16 meters. At a depth of 28 meters there is a burial chamber made of granite, the sarcophagi of the pharaohs are stored here. Nine granite blocks make up the ceiling of the burial chamber, with a total weight of 400 tons. Five separate niches are located above the burial chamber. Four of them have a straight ceiling, and one has a slightly tilted ceiling. This was done on purpose so that in the future there would not be a collapse under the heavy weight of the structure.

It is in this pyramid that there are descending and ascending passages that are no longer in any other. The main feature of this pyramid is a rather large descent, which was called the "large gallery". At the end of this gallery is a fairly narrow passage, which is the passage into the room of the pharaoh himself. The walls of this room are decorated with amazing polished granite. Scientists have found that the pharaoh’s room was built according to the proportions of the golden section, which is why this is a real triumph of Egyptian geometry.

A sarcophagus of the pharaoh himself is made of a red granite monolith, while its dimensions are much larger than the entrance to this room itself. Oddly enough, the sarcophagus was discovered already open and there were no valuable things in it that were intended for the body of the pharaoh himself. Also, funeral supplies and the mummy of the pharaoh were not found . Scientists have suggested that the pyramid of Cheops was looted in antiquity.

The famous Pyramid of Cheops is one of the most famous secrets of mankind, while the interest of archaeologists, scientists and mathematicians from different countries does not subside for a second. This riddle can not be solved for several millennia.
