Marina Tsvetaeva is one of the most popular poets to date. A man with an unusually difficult fate, she raised many in-depth themes and questions in her poems. Many of her contemporaries poets were delighted with the syllable of Marina Tsvetaeva, since she wrote extremely truthfully about what worried the heart of every person. And Tsvetaeva's “Attempt of Jealousy” is just one of such works.
A few words about the poet
Marina Tsvetaeva was the daughter of art critic and philologist Ivan Tsvetaeva and pianist Maria Maine. Parents carefully engaged in the education of the girl, the mother already saw her as a musician in the future, but the literature carried her daughter much more. Marina began to write poetry while still at school, though mostly in French. From an early age, the girl was fluent in three languages.
Tsvetaeva published the first poems in her youth, and for her own money. But over time, the circle of the Moscow literary elite recognized the poetess as an incredibly gifted and talented person. Alas, this did not save her from the hardships of fate - the death of two children, emigration, a long journey to her homeland broke a woman and led to suicide.

The bottom line is the state of the heroine. She does not compare herself with the new beloved of her lover, but puts much higher. Quotations indicate this, among which: “How do you live with a simple woman? Without deities? ” The heroine does not seem possible to compare herself with another, but forces her former lover to do so. To realize that now next to him is an ordinary, ordinary woman.
Here, the character of the heroine is clearly read. She is a spectacular and stormy nature, she is not domestic, not ordinary. The heroine is perplexed because her man turned out to be completely different, that he was looking for happiness in just such a “home” woman. Her monologue is perplexity, a throw in the face.
Compositional analysis of “Attempts of jealousy” Tsvetaeva
The poem consists of 12 stanzas, each of which opens a new facet of the heroine’s state. At first, she inquires somewhat restrainedly, by the middle of the work the intensity rises and leads to a completely logical ending.
Analyzing Tsvetaeva's “Attempt of Jealousy”, we notice that some phrases are regularly repeated here. So, several times the question sounds: "How are you?" In the first stanzas he sounds neutral, the heroine asks her first question. In the fourth stanza, we are already witnessing an aggravation of the conflict. It is achieved by repeating the word "how." The resentment of the heroine is increasingly manifested precisely with this issue.
The variety of epithets with which the heroine describes her rival is also noteworthy. “Alien”, “any”, “simple”, “local”, “hundred thousandth”, “earthly” - all this she says about the new woman. He calls it “market goods”, “likeness”, “gypsum trash”. All these words paint for us a very accurate image of this very nameless darling. At the same time, the heroine compares herself with the highest images, inhuman. She compares herself with Lilith, with Carrara marble, with a deity, calls herself a woman with a sixth sense. And he never says it openly, but only after comparing it with his follower. This is how the creation of maximum contrast between these images is achieved.
Also, Tsvetaeva, as it were, quotes the words of that very “chosen one” in the poem: “There will be enough convulsions and interruptions - I will hire a house for myself!” So she emphasizes the variability and impetuosity of the main character’s lifestyle. And, of course, my own fatigue.
The theme of jealousy in the works of other authors
The analysis of “Attempts of Jealousy” by Tsvetaeva will be more complete when compared, for example, with the poem “Jealousy” by Anna Akhmatova. The poetess stated the same topic in a slightly different way - she seemed to have resigned herself to parting and only spoke the last words to her chosen one. But if you think about these lines, it will become clear why the poems of Marina Tsvetaeva are “An Attempt at Jealousy”, and Akhmatova’s is precisely “Jealousy”. The last of them is jealous with cold fury, foreseeing that her lover will once again try to return to her, that she will not forgive his betrayal. And the heroine Tsvetaeva is trying to be jealous of the “simple” woman, but she cannot because of the same simplicity. And, finally, the conclusion and the bitter point in her work is that her heroine now turned out to be with another, earthly man.
