City squares in Rostov-on-Don

The city of beauty, the millionaire city in which there is so much sun and heat, spread widely along the mighty river. Having experienced great difficulties, having experienced various events, he can tell a lot about his long and interesting life. It is enough to walk along the streets of Rostov-on-Don, squares with speaking names, visit its museums and exhibitions with various exhibits, take a walk along the promenade famous throughout the country. It is impossible to know this city in one or two days. But, having arrived here once, you will want to return to be surprised again at its thoroughness and many-sidedness.

Squares in Rostov-on-Don occupy a special place. Originally created as trading places, as the city developed, they acquired different purposes and, accordingly, individuality. There are a lot of them on the plan of the guide. We will visit only a few of the most remarkable.

Cathedral Square

Peter the Great during the Azov campaigns chose this place because of its favorable location in the lower reaches of the Don. The protective structures built here would reliably block the lands of the Russian Empire from the restless neighbors - Turks and Tatars. But the construction of the fortress took place only by decree of Catherine the First in 1761, and it was named after Metropolitan Dimitry of Rostov and Yaroslavl, which gave the name to the city.

The oldest square of Rostov-on-Don is its historical center. The square is decorated with the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in 1860 instead of the wooden church burned down in this place. Today it is the main Cathedral of the city.

Rostov on Don Square

In 1890, the townspeople, using the money they collected, erected a monument to Tsar Liberator Alexander II on their main square , which was destroyed in 1924. At the very end of the last century, a beautiful monument reappeared here, but already to St. Demetrius of Rostov. This is one of the few monuments to the saints in Russia.

At all times there was a city bazaar. Rostovites, keeping traditions, still go here to the Central city market.

Council Square

This is one of the central squares of Rostov-on-Don , known in the XIX century as the square of the New Bazaar. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the former main building of the ensemble, was demolished after the revolution. During the war, most of the buildings were destroyed, and the appearance of the square was recreated.

Today it is a green island in the heart of a bustling city. Tall trees along the perimeter, well-groomed flowerbeds and paved paths attract citizens here. Here it is customary to meet and take a leisurely stroll, admiring the flowering of planted plants.

The sculptural composition in memory of the Red Army soldiers, in the center of which stands Marshal of the USSR S.M. Budyonny, surrounded by his subordinates, was made by the famous sculptor E.V.

Theater Square in Rostov-on-Don

Once a place located on the outskirts, in an urban wasteland, now has become the main, most significant area of โ€‹โ€‹the city. Holidays, events, parades, concerts, fireworks and much more that are held here today, attracts tens of thousands of citizens. Of course, this is a beautiful, well-groomed and attractive place for tourists and locals.

Theater Square Rostov-on-Don

Theater Square in Rostov-on-Don is easy to find from the 42-meter-long stele of the memorial dedicated to the liberation of the city from the Nazis from afar. At the very top of the composition are the goddess of victory Nick and the Order of World War II.

The square, which was originally named after the Revolution, was renamed in the mid-thirties of the last century at the end of the construction of a new building for the Drama Theater. A. M. Gorky. The first thing that strikes during the inspection is that the theater building is made in the form of a caterpillar tractor. For its unusual form, a copy was exhibited in England at the Museum of Architecture.

A complex of fountains created by the sculptor E.V. Vuchetich works near the theater. An architectural monument is the building of the North Caucasian Railway, built at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Komsomolskaya Square Rostov-on-Don

The area is always crowded. It is nice to take a walk, admire the beauties of the city, relax in one of the many cafes or restaurants.

Working area

The working area of โ€‹โ€‹Rostov-on-Don is located in the Zheleznodorozhny district of the city. Surrounded mainly by residential buildings of the old construction, it is a recreation area, rather, even a small square, into which local residents come. Around the square organized a circular movement of cars, and the square itself, as an island of security and peace, invites you for a walk. There are children's playgrounds, pavilions selling drinks and ice cream, and fountains are located here. The area is old, inhabited, therefore very green and comfortable. In the surrounding houses there are numerous shops and services that ensure the normal functioning of people.

Komsomolskaya Square in Rostov-on-Don

The working area of โ€‹โ€‹Rostov-on-Don

A fighter city with a respectable military past has survived all the hardships with its country. Numerous sculptural ensembles, memorials and monuments captured this memory. On one of the squares of the city โ€‹โ€‹in 1969, on the initiative of the Komsomol members, a black marble stele was erected dedicated to the exploit of young Rostov children in World War II. The area also began to be called Komsomolskaya. You canโ€™t look without pain at the remains of the bas-relief with the image of a wounded young guy clutching a weapon in his hands in which there are no cartridges left. A lot of people died on Rostov land, closing the gates to the Caucasus from the Nazis. I would like to hope that someday the restored stele will be a worthy monument to those who died for their country.
