The coat of arms of the Murmansk region, as well as the symbols of other entities, reflects the historical development of the territory and its role for the state.

Description

The coat of arms of the Murmansk region is a classic French shield, divided into two parts by a horizontal line. In the upper field on a blue background shows the golden aurora borealis. The center of the composition of the lower part is the golden anchor, behind which are the crossed silver sword and pickaxe. The background is painted red.

Symbolism

The coat of arms of the Murmansk region, the description of which would be incomplete without symbolic decoding, was thought out in detail, and each individual element carries its own semantic load:

  • the northern lights emphasize that the region is beyond the Arctic Circle;
  • the anchor indicates that the main activity of the inhabitants of the region is navigation and fishing;
  • pickaxe symbolizes a large number of minerals and a developed system of their extraction and processing;
  • the sword reminds of honor and courage.

In addition to individual elements, it is no coincidence that the choice of colors:

  • blue (light blue) - power and natural beauty;
  • red (scarlet) - courage and valor;
  • gold - luxury, wealth;
  • silver - purity of thoughts and devotion to one’s country.

The region is quite young, and a new emblem was adopted in 2004. Before that, there were two projects. In 2002, the coat of arms was imagined in the form of a French shield, divided into three parts in an inverted-forked way. On the right side on a scarlet background is a gold anchor. The left side is painted blue, it depicts a silver reindeer head. Below on a silver background are two crossed diamond kyle. The top of the composition is decorated with golden aurora borealis.

In 2003, the project was changed, and the coat of arms of the Murmansk region began to look much simpler. A fortress tower is depicted on an azure background, with a pick and an anchor on its sides. All elements are made in silver. At the top lies the golden aurora borealis. Also, the shield is crowned with a golden crown.

Flag

The flag of the region is a canvas, divided into two parts horizontally in a ratio of 1: 4. In the upper broad field against a blue background, the northern lights are located, the lower band is painted in saturated red color.

The coat of arms of the Murmansk region is the main symbol of the region, but besides it, each city has its own individual symbol:

  • Murmansk - the shield is divided into two parts, in the upper, wider, aurora borealis depicts a golden northern lights and the same ship. Below, on the contrary, on a gold background, the silhouette of a blue fish.
  • Apatity - the shield is divided into four parts, the upper left and lower right corners are golden. The upper right corner is scarlet with a golden sun and a stake in the middle. The lower left corner is blue, inside is a golden book with two crossed azure hammers. In the center is a silver star, the whole composition is crowned with a golden crown.

  • Zaozersk - a shield of azure color, in the middle is a golden wave. Sun rays are shown above, two crossed anchors in the middle, and a seahorse below. All elements are gold.
  • Kirovsk is a shield of gold color, at the top there is an inscription with the name of the city. The upper right corner is red with three golden stripes, and the lower left is blue with two crossed jackhammers.
  • Monchegorsk - the upper right and lower left corners are gold, the rest of the background is scarlet, in the upper part in the center there is a gold bucket, and underneath is the same foundry bucket.
  • Olenegorsk - the shield is painted blue, on a black pyramid framed by a green ribbon, there is a golden deer, and around it there are 26 golden bezants.
  • Polar dawns - a background of azure color, in the middle are silver hills with three peaks. Above is the golden aurora borealis, and below is the golden sign of the atom.
  • Severomorsk - a French form shield is framed by a gold ribbon. The image is divided into two parts by a wavy line, at the top on a blue background is a golden northern lights and two crossed anchors. Below is a black ship on silver. The composition is crowned with a silver crown. Behind the shield are two golden anchors entwined with a red ribbon.
  • Zapolyarny - in the upper left part two intersecting nuclear orbits are shown, and immediately below them is the nickel sign. In the right part, from above - the northern lights, and below - a branch of mountain ash. The shield is framed by a silver ribbon.
  • Zelenoborsky - an azure-colored shield crossed by a red ribbon, a seagull is depicted below, and a green spruce on a silver pillar above.
  • Kandalaksha - against a scarlet background on blue waves, a golden ship is sailing with a silver sail, at the top it is accompanied by a golden eider. The shield is crowned with a golden crown and framed by a red ribbon.
  • Cola - on a blue background a silver heraldic whale is shown.
  • Revda - in the lower part there is a black extremity with a white top, which divides the shield in half. In the right green field there is a golden moose, and in the left blue field - the same deer. The shield is crowned with a walled crown, in the background are two crossed pickaxes entwined with a ribbon painted in the colors of a tricolor.
  • Gadzhievo - the shield is divided into two parts, on top on a blue background is a black mountain with white peaks and golden aurora borealis, below on silver is a black warship. Behind the shield are two anchors entwined with a red ribbon. The entire composition is crowned by a walled crown.

  • Kovdor - the shield is divided into parts by a gold ribbon, on the bottom on a black background is the iron sign, and on the top on the silver is depicted a rose of winds of black, blue and gold colors.
  • Polar - the coat of arms is divided into two parts by a silver horizontal wave. On the left on the red background is a golden bell, on the right on the azure field is a golden ship with silver sails.
  • Snezhnogorsk - the shield is painted blue, the lower part is silver, in the same place, peeking from the hole, the head of a sockeye salmon is depicted. At the top are three silver snowflakes.

The coat of arms of the Murmansk region, whose photo is above, like the other symbols of the region, directly or indirectly indicates the location beyond the Arctic Circle. This area is the northern part of the country.
