Badan is a very beautiful plant from the Saxifrage family, which has high decorative characteristics. The homeland of badan is the poor rocky soil of Siberia, Central Asia, the Himalayas and China, where there are more than 10 species of this culture. Grown on a personal plot, the incense will decorate it all year round: in spring and summer - with large leathery bright green leaves and luxurious racemose inflorescences towering above them, consisting of small bells of white, pink or pale lilac color; in autumn and with the approach of cold weather - a bright scarlet, coloring the leaves of plants. Elephant ears, Mongolian tea, bergenia - all these are the names of the plant of frankincense. The care and cultivation of this crop does not require much effort and skill, so even a beginner grower can decorate his garden or flower garden with an incense.
Description and general description
As already mentioned, frankincense is one of the most prominent representatives of the Saxifrage family.
Leaves
The leaves of the incense are round in shape, large and fleshy, up to 40 cm in height. Their lifespan is two years, during which their growth, development and aging take place. In the first year of life, they have a bright green color, become crimson by autumn, winter in this state, and in spring, when the plant begins to grow a new green mass, βadultβ leaves turn pinkish-yellow, then brown, then die off, forming on the soil under the bush, a kind of protective coating that prevents excessive evaporation of moisture and overheating of the plant in the heat. Badan, the care and cultivation of which requires regular release from the litter from dead leaves, also involves periodic mulching of the soil and monitoring its moisture, especially in the hot season.
Rhizomes
Rhizomes of creeping, creeping, thick, long and highly branching, can reach 4-5 cm in diameter, so it is not surprising that the division of these powerful rhizomes is the main way to propagate this garden culture.
Inflorescences
Badan, care and cultivation of which is carried out not only for lush foliage, but also for plentiful flowering, in late March and early April (depending on the climatic zone) produces luxurious raceme-like inflorescences that rise above the leaves to a height of 60 cm. small bells of saturated, but such a delicate color.
Badan: cultivation and care
In terms of care, badan is a unpretentious plant. It does not require the creation and maintenance of special conditions, as well as increased attention. For a plant such as incense, care and cultivation require minimal knowledge, skills and gardening skills.
Location on the site
The penumbra is the ideal place for penumbra, but it will feel quite comfortable in full shade and in the bright sun. Being a native of areas with poor rocky soil, Mongolian tea (another name for badan) is a frost and drought tolerant plant. The only thing that can harm the frankincense is late spring frosts, which are so common in our region, since at this time it is already starting to produce fragile and delicate flower stalks.
Care and feedingTimely watering, mulching in spring and autumn, as well as pruning of flower stalks after flowering is enough for a successful growth and development of a coniferous plant to make the plant stronger and healthier. Badan officinalis perfectly exists without dressing, you can even say that he does not like them. "Overfed" incense grows in leaves and consumes less energy for flowering. It is enough to feed with a complex mineral fertilizer after flowering, so that before the frost the plant has time to lay and strengthen new outlets.
