What is remarkable for the area of the Yauz Gate?

Located near the Astakhov bridge - the oldest in the capital of Russia. It was rebuilt only in 1940. The mouth of the Yauza River in former times was called the Refuge. This was due to the fact that in this place the merchants who rafted their goods along the rivers stopped for rest.

After some time, Yauza lost the status of a navigable reservoir. The area still remained very popular. Near the Yauz bridge there was a road junction in different directions: to Kolomna, Vladimir and Ryazan. In 1917, the flag bearer Illarion Astakhov was killed at the place where the roads came into contact with the police. As a result, the bridge was renamed in his honor during the Soviet era.

Near the area of the Yauz Gate were located the popular Silver Baths. Not far from them was a small house in which Ostrovsky lived. At the beginning of Yauzsky Boulevard there was a building that was chosen by tea merchants, and the temple of Yauzsky Gate, built back in 1629.
