Rothband gypsum plaster is being made, the technical characteristics of which will be discussed below by several Russian enterprises with capital from the German company Knauf. Hence its double name: "Rothband Knauf." In the production of this universal mixture, only the highest quality materials are used and all the required technologies are carefully observed. The composition was developed by the specialists of Knauf. For the manufacture of this mixture is mainly used gypsum. Also, it contains special polymer additives.
The product is packaged in paper multilayer bags of 5, 10, 30 kg. The latter option is the most common and popular. A brief application instruction is applied to the packaging. Bags must be handled with care. Despite the multilayer, due to the significant weight of the plaster, it is very easy to break them.

Which shade option is better
Pink, white, and gray Rotband plaster are sold in stores. The technical characteristics of this product, as the manufacturer assures, do not depend on color in any way. However, many specialists working with this plaster argue that its pink version has better ductility. When applying a thick layer, such a solution drains less from the wall. White and gray varieties are more suitable if in the future it is supposed to stick wallpaper on the wall without using putty.
The uneven properties of the plaster of different colors is explained by different grain sizes. In white and gray mixtures, it is very small (0.5 mm). In pink - large (up to 1.2 mm).
How to find out exactly which “Rotband” gypsum plaster is in the bag? Specifications are indicated on the packaging. But the color, unfortunately, is not. However, you can try to determine it by the manufacturer. So, white plaster is produced by such companies as KNAUF GIPS Baskunchak and KNAUF GIPS Kuban. The gray one is KNAUF GIPS, the pink one is KNAUF GIPS Kolpino and KNAUF GIPS Chelyabinsk. You can find out the color by the manufacturer quite accurately. But sometimes this method still does not work. Therefore, when buying about the color of the product, you should ask the seller.
How to make a batch
It is very easy to make a Rotband plaster solution. For one bag (30 kg) you will need to use 18 liters of water. Of course, you do not need to knead the whole dry mixture at once. Rothband plaster (technical characteristics can be seen in the table above) hardens very quickly.
When preparing a solution, two parts of dry powder are usually taken in three parts of water. Kneading should be done in a container without corners. In this case, the finished composition will be more homogeneous. Usually, a bucket from under the emulsion paint is used for this purpose . First, water is poured into it, and then 5-6 masters of dry plaster are laid . Next, everything needs to be thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous composition is obtained. After that, the remaining dry mixture is added to the bucket and mixed again. It is best to prepare the solution using a drill with a special nozzle.
Mix the Rotband mixture only in clean containers. The tool is very high quality - “Knauf Rothband”. Technical characteristics allow even thin layers of 3 mm to be made from it (although this is not recommended by the manufacturer). However, the presence of any impurities can significantly impair the properties of the mixture. Therefore, the solution should be prepared in a very clean container. Tools should be washed immediately after preparation of the mixture. Rothband plaster freezes very quickly. Before use, the mass is left to stand for 5 minutes.
The solution should be prepared immediately with the necessary consistency. After the start of the finishing procedure, you can not add plaster to it or add water. It is not allowed to add any foreign components to the mixture. If you do everything according to the rules, you will get a very high-quality stucco mixture “Rotband”, the technical characteristics of which will allow you to achieve a stable, even crack-resistant layer on the wall or ceiling.
Preparatory work
Before applying the Rotband plaster, the walls must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and dust, as well as the remains of wallpaper, plaster, etc. All surfaces must be clean and dry. Aerated concrete, brick or gypsum fiber, since they absorb water very well, must first be primed. To do this, you can use, for example, a grinder from the same “Knauf”.
Concrete smooth surfaces are usually treated with concrete contact. This improves adhesion between wall material and plaster. In this case, it is also recommended to use the product brand "Knauf". The primer or concrete contact must dry very well before applying the plaster.
Application Methods
Putty "Rotband", the technical characteristics of which are much better than many other domestic plasters, are distinguished by a very high degree of plasticity. Therefore, it can be applied absolutely by any technology. The most commonly used beacon method. In this case, strips of the prepared solution are applied to the walls with a step slightly shorter than the rule length. Further, special thin profiles are pressed into them. After the mixture has hardened, they begin to finish the walls. To do this, the solution is poured between the profiles with a trowel and leveled with the rule.
Sometimes a second coat of material is required on the walls or ceiling. In this case, before the surface solidifies, it passes through a special plaster crest. The second coat can be applied no earlier than 24 hours after the first.
Stucco Knauf Rotband plaster, the technical characteristics of which are actually quite good, gives a very smooth surface. However, it is still better to align the walls with a metal rail. This operation is performed approximately one hour after application. For wallpaper or painting, the surface of the wall is treated with grout.
Structuring Plaster
In order to get a more interesting surface, before the applied layer hardens, you can walk along its surface with a trowel or a hard brush. A very interesting texture is also obtained when using a special embossed roller. You can buy such a tool in any construction supermarket.
Tool requirements
This is how they work with the Rothband tool. Technical characteristics (GOST 31377-2008 for gypsum plasters by the manufacturer is fully observed) allow you to use absolutely any tools when applying it. This can be not only a rule and a trowel, but also ordinary spatulas of different lengths. For alignment of corners the special tool of a special form is usually used. Ceilings are most often plastered with a construction falcon.
It will be very good to pre-purchase a plastic scoop for the dry mix. When using a trowel to prepare a mortar, the plaster is easy to spill. To wipe the tools from the mixture, you need to prepare a wet rag in advance.
Grouting can be done independently, for example, by cutting off a wide piece of foam packaging for household appliances. Finishing the top of the walls and ceiling is usually done either from a stepladder, or from a special repair table.
How to store dry mix
Bags with Rotband plaster must be brought into the room. It can be a garage, a senza or a household block, the main thing is that the air there is dry. Otherwise, the mixture will clump. It is best to put the bags on a wooden pallet. Do not store dry mix in damaged containers.
