Chekhov begins to travel a lot: having visited Sakhalin, he makes a census and writes about the arbitrariness of local officials. After this trip, the author’s creative baggage was enriched with new works: “From Siberia”, “In exile”, “Sakhalin Island”, “Baba”, “Gusev”, “Story of an unknown person”.

Last moments

The year 1900 also becomes significant for the prose writer - Chekhov is admitted to the Academy of Sciences, which he leaves two years later, protesting against the exclusion of Gorky from it.
