The most famous work of K. Vorobyov was the story "Killed near Moscow", a summary of which is given below. It describes the November events of 1941, when there were defensive battles for the capital.
To the front
A company of 240 Kremlin cadets led by Captain Ryumin the second day on the road. Young, healthy, all as a selection, they were preparing for feats. The front seemed to the guys as something big, consisting of fire, reinforced concrete, human flesh. During the raids, all but the captain fell together. Ryumin, on top, glanced at the cadets, for whom he was a kind of role model. So begins K. Vorobyov's novel "Killed near Moscow."
A brief summary of the campaign is complemented by a meeting with the NKVD special detachment located at the clover’s squad, the major of which checked the documents with a look of superiority and allowed to follow in the direction of the fighting.
On the far approaches to the capital

The fourth platoon was led by a young lieutenant Alexei Yastrebov, who still did not believe that he was awarded the title. In the new overcoat, he felt his significance and tried his best to resemble Ryumin.

First fights
In the morning, enemy planes appeared. In the fourth platoon came political instructor Anisimov, who remained at the time of the shelling. The psychological state of the lieutenant and the cadets who fell under a hail of mines, the description of the death of the political instructor and six other soldiers who were the first of the platoon to be killed near Moscow, is a summary of the next chapter. At first, Yastrebov wanted to hide, but after realizing what was happening, there was a desire to stand to the end.
In the morning, Ryumin handed a reconnaissance report to the headquarters and received an oral order to retreat. But the captain did not trust the words. And the roar of tanks nearby confirmed that the regiment was surrounded. The only right decision for the captain now was the offensive. Having buried the dead, the company began to prepare for the attack of the village occupied by the Germans.
Everything happened quickly: the cadets defeated the enemy taken aback. The author shows what is happening through the perception of Yastrebovym. Pictures of death and the first murder of a German, a turmoil in which no one understood anything, the joy that he survived ... It was repeatedly noted how credibly conveyed the feelings of the characters in the story of K. Vorobyov.
"Killed near Moscow": a summary of the climax and denouement
Inspired cadets moved to the forest. Here they were caught by enemy aircraft. Powerful shelling was replaced by tanks and infantry.
In Alexei, all feelings were drowned out by fear, which made him jump into the funnel. There was a cadet who asked him to be killed: better than a prisoner. The lieutenant suddenly realized how many-sided death and how treacherously he acted, only now remembering the platoon. When they got out of the pit, Yastrebov did not want anything, and the body was a stranger.
Six came out of the battle, including Ryumin. Soon they went to the ricks, where they met with the major. The next morning, the captain shot himself, and they decided to bury him. At this point, tanks appeared. The cadets rushed to the rink, which the enemy immediately destroyed. Alex, who remained in the grave, set fire to one car. Having got out of the filled pit, he collected his arms and headed north-east. The desire to get there, the fear of meeting, the joy that he was alive, and the insult that no one had seen him set fire to the tank, fatigue ... All these feelings were mixed, and the sobbing words "Bitch ... Skinny ..." helped to go. Captain, three lieutenants, two hundred and forty cadets - so many fighters were killed in five days near Moscow.
