Fantasy is a genre in literature and cinema based on various myths and fairy tales. Art scholars say that this genre appeared and formed at the beginning of the 15th century, but began to gain popularity relatively recently - only in the middle of the 20th century. This was largely influenced by the writer John Tolkien - his world-famous novel The Lord of the Rings is considered a classic of epic fantasy.
In addition to Tolkien, many other writers worked in this genre - both Russian and foreign. This is Clive Lewis (“The Chronicles of Narnia”), Christopher Paolini (“Eragon”), the Strugatsky brothers (“Monday starts on Saturday”) and others. They also include Bernhard Hennen, who created the trilogy “Elven Sword”.
Writer Information
Bernhard Hennen was born in 1966 in the German city of Krefeld in Dusseldorf, where he spent his entire childhood. After leaving school, Hennen moved to Cologne to enter the University of Cologne. Studying at the university and studying German philology, history and archeology, the future writer at the same time worked as a journalist in various print publications, as well as radio magazines.
Bernhard Hennen's debut book, Das Jahr des Greifen, co-authored with another German writer Wolfgang Holbein, was published in 1994. At the moment, the novel is still not published in Russian, but its name from German can be roughly translated as “Year of capture”.
The first novel of the Elven Sword cycle was released in 2007. Currently, Hennen owns about three dozen novels and many stories.

The series consists of three books. Their names were translated into Russian as “Elven Sword”, “Knight from the Family of Others”, “Heir to the Throne”.
The protagonists of the trilogy are Princess Gishilda, the heiress of the elven throne, and a boy named Luke. Together they have a long way to go, full of adventure and danger. Giskhilda and Luke learn what friendship and enmity are. Having overcome all the obstacles and trials sent to them by fate, they will be able to gain something more.
On the cycle "Sword of the Elves", most readers respond positively. They note the interesting concept of the world created by the writer, a fascinating unpredictable plot, as well as the detailed characters of the characters and the relationship between them.
Other works
In addition to the Elven Sword trilogy, Hennen created two more fantasy novels, as well as several separate works.
The Last Elf series includes three books. At the center of events is the elven queen Emerell. One day she finds out that she is in danger. The prediction comes true, and during the traditional Festival of Lights, the ruler is attacked by rebellious subjects and trolls. Faithful Emmerel, the bodyguard, is forced to transfer the queen to the world of people in order to save her from the killers. However, enemies follow in their wake.
The Dragon Lair series tells of the times when dragons ruled elves. The established order forever changes with the appearance of an elven archer who boldly killed the troll prince.
