Writer Andrei Dyakov: biography and creativity

Many are aware of Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novel Metro 2033. This work in the genre of fiction (post-apocalyptic - the world after the "end of the world") tells about people who survived after a terrible catastrophe - a nuclear war. All major cities fell, the surviving people had to settle in the local metro.

The first book, Metro 2033, was published by Exmo Publishing House in 2005 and re-published by Polar Literature two years later. Almost immediately after the second publication, the work gained immense success and was named the Best Debut of 2007 at the Eurocon contest.

Based on the novel, Dmitry Glukhovsky created a series of books about the life of survivors in the subway. There are many authors writing books for this project. One of them is Andrey Dyakov.

Writer Biography

The future author was born on January 28, 1978 in St. Petersburg (Leningrad). From childhood, Andrei Dyakov was interested in fiction in any form - books, films, computer games. It was then that he came up with the idea to create his own work in the genre of post-apocalyptic.

In 2000, Andrei Dyakov graduated from the St. Petersburg Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics with a degree in management.

Acquaintance with the novel "Metro 2033" occurred when Dyakov worked at the Electrosila plant. The views of the shop buildings and the industrial landscapes of the plant made a great impression on the future writer. That is why, having familiarized himself with the initial version of Metro 2033, Andrei Dyakov did not remain indifferent and followed with enthusiasm the creation of the final version.

In 2005-2006, Dyakov joined the project, writing several small in volume works. At the moment, his authorship owns 3 novels and 3 stories.

The first novel by Andrei Dyakov, created for the Glukhovsky project and released in 2010, is “Toward the Light”.

Unlike the novel by Glukhovsky, the action of this book takes place in the subway of St. Petersburg. Once people notice that strange lights appeared from the side of Kronstadt. A detachment of militants, led by an experienced stalker nicknamed Taran, is sent to the surface in order to find out the cause of the appearance of these lights. That is why the book was called "Toward the Light."

On the way of the heroes, various dangers await - not only terrible mutants, but also radiation, as well as other consequences of a nuclear war.

The continuation of this novel, entitled "Into Darkness" was released in 2011. The expedition of Taran and his detachment to post-nuclear St. Petersburg continues. The reader will meet familiar characters: stalkers, the boy Gleb, the adopted son of Taran, the mutant Smoke, and new heroes.

The final book of the Andrei Dyakov trilogy, “Over the Horizon,” was published in 2013. This is a powerful and fascinating ending to the story of Taran's journey.

The stories

Dyakov wrote 3 stories: “The Word of the Stalker”, “The Case of the Stalker” and “The Code of the Stalker”. They were published in 2010, combined into one book.

The scene is the same metro of St. Petersburg. Events take place almost immediately after the disaster, when the surviving people were forced to go down the subway to hide from a nuclear tornado. They remain alone, cut off from the whole world. Suddenly a stalker appears, the only person able to help.

Further creative plans of Dyakov

The trilogy about Taran and Gleb has gained popularity among readers and received positive reviews from critics. Dyakov’s first novel, Toward the Light, won the Best Book of the Universe 2010 nomination. The same award was awarded to his continuation of "Into Darkness."

Despite the fact that the trilogy is logically completed, in an interview, Andrei Dyakov announced his intention to write the next part of the cycle. At the moment, the working title of the future novel is Home.
