Peony transplantation in autumn is carried out from the first decade of September until mid-October. No sultry hot weather is observed during this period. It rains heavily. This means that during the first frosts the plant will not die, and next year it will delight with huge caps of flowers.
Of course, autumn is the best time for transplanting peonies. But it can be done in the spring. The most acceptable period is the second half of April. But, as a rule, in the spring on the garden plot and without this a lot of work. Therefore, it is not always possible to allocate additional time for digging, dividing and planting a plant bush. In addition, in the spring, the weather is very generous with surprises. And the temperature fluctuation greatly affects the survival rate and the quality of rooting of pions. Before digging up a peony, which will need to be divided, its stems are cut off. It is best to cut at a distance of 5-7 cm from the soil. The correct transplantation of peonies in autumn is carried out by bushes. So, after the plant has been trimmed, it is carefully removed from the ground. To do this, they dig a hole almost to the rhizome, then the bush begins to slowly and carefully loosen. At the same time, it is removed from the earth layer. You should not rush here, otherwise you can inadvertently touch the roots and damage them.
Now, after the bush is taken out of the ground, you need to decide on the place where the peonies will grow. Transplanting and caring for these colors of labor are not. But in autumn, it will be necessary to remove all foliage from under the plant in order to avoid infection of the bush with fungal diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to plant flowers so that they have an approach from at least three sides. A sunny area is best. But peonies do not like drafts. It is also not recommended to plant this plant next to other shrubs or trees. From constant dimming, the flower will fade and bloom poorly.
So, in order for the peony transplant to be successful in the fall, it is necessary to prepare a hole in advance. It is done about a month before the proposed landing. It should be at least 50 cm long and depth. The bottom of the landing pit is loosened and enriched with peat or compost. A layer of fertile soil is poured on top. A fertilizer complex is introduced into it, consisting of superphosphate,
bone meal, wood ash,
vitriol and
potassium nitrate. A layer of soil enriched with mineral elements should occupy less than half of the planting pit. Before direct planting of peonies, it is shed with water. If autumn stood out without rain, then the bush will also need to be regularly watered. In October, you can cut the stems again. In most cases, peonies do not cover for the winter, but in the northern regions they are still sprinkled with a layer of foliage.
