It is advisable that they can be mounted without the involvement of third-party specialists and do not require special costs for care and maintenance.
Lining made of MDF boards are considered the most optimal option for finishing the door leaf. This material consists of wood fibers, suitably processed and compressed to the required density. Processing the outer surface with a laminate of various textures and shades or veneer of valuable species creates a resemblance to natural material.
Solid wood can also be used as a lining on the door. The price of such finishes will be higher, but the impression at the entrance to the home from the appearance will accordingly change.
Execution options
Currently, you can buy ready-made door linings, made according to standard designs, or order their manufacture in specialized workshops.
Owners with the capabilities and tools can make their own decorative panel to their taste from a solid MDF board. It is cut in accordance with the idea and processed on a milling machine. The blanks are finished in various ways: they are painted, varnished or with a polyvinyl chloride film.
The option of panels decorated with hand-carved will cost an order of magnitude more expensive. For such a finish, thicker linings are chosen so that the volumetric thread looks in all its glory.
An even more refined finishing option will be the installation of a false glass with a protective openwork grille. However, such work involves removing the doors from the hinges.
Mounting
Fastening standard door linings does not require special equipment. This process can be carried out with one’s own, but it’s still better to turn to professionals.
If it is possible to remove the doors from the hinges and lay them to install the plates in a horizontal position, the work can be done faster and better. In this case, the patch panels can be fixed with liquid nails. Before applying them, the surface is cleaned of exfoliating coating and degreased.
In the horizontal position, the lining on the door is fixed with screws. To install the inner panel around the perimeter of the door leaf through its entire thickness, holes are drilled with the formation of a countersunk recess for the screw head. Its length is calculated so that there is no exit point to the front surface.
The outer plate on the metal door is attached to the sides for short self-tapping screws. Their hats are usually closed with a rubber seal that protects against drafts. For reliability, fasteners with self-tapping screws can be duplicated with liquid nails.
Care
The decorative trim on the front door, lined with PVC film, does not require special care. Its surface has dirt-repellent properties.
If necessary, wash the pads with a neutral detergent that does not contain abrasive and chlorine. For washing use flannel or other soft material. Fat stains are removed with a mild soapy solution.
It is forbidden to use gasoline, alcohol, acetone and other types of solvents for cleaning, as well as materials impregnated with these substances. If possible, you should use special care products for the appropriate type of coating.
They not only remove dirt well and protect against aggressive environments, but also contain additives that add flavor and make the surface shine.
Overhead fittings
Using decorative MDF panels for decoration, you should be prepared for the fact that the handles, inspection eyes and, possibly, the locks will have to be changed.
Lining on the door, especially massive carved, have a significant thickness. If they are installed on both sides, the total thickness of the door leaf will increase significantly. Standard hardware, as a rule, is not suitable in this case, it needs to be changed, or replacement of fasteners of a different size is required.
When choosing new pens, you should pay attention to the quality of the material and the compatibility of colors and shades. Chrome door linings are well protected against corrosion and are usually suitable for most surfaces. Doors with such hardware look rich and aesthetically pleasing, emphasizing style.
