You can make a gift for any holiday yourself. This can be a postcard using the scrapbooking technique, or ordinary handmade wallets. And for the latter you will need only the remnants of fabric and zipper, as well as some free time and a sewing machine. Tune in? Then we present: "Do-it-yourself wallet" (master class).
Materials
Do-it-yourself wallets are made of leather and leatherette, but a dense fabric is also suitable. So you will need:
- 2 pieces of fabric 27 x 17 cm for the front part;
- 2 pieces of fabric 27 x 17 cm for the wrong side;
- 2 pieces of doubler to seal facial tissue;
- scissors;
- pins
- zipper to fit your wallet;
- sewing machine.
You can do without a sewing machine if you don’t see the difficulty in sewing on your hands. Zipper should be taken in the color of the main fabric. The lining fabric should also be cotton and harmonize in color with the core. These purses can be sewn with your own hands even from old jeans. This is a good practice, and a second life for denim.
Start sewing
Everything is pretty simple here. According to the described principle, you can sew a lot of useful things about which you will read in the last section.
- To begin with, pin the front and back parts to the zipper on pins. Do it as carefully as possible, because the wallet’s appearance in the future depends on it.
- Sew the parts together on a typewriter, removing the pins as you go.
- You can make a double stitch - as close to the zipper and at a distance of 5 mm. This is necessary for strength, because you will use the castle often.
- Now fold the wallet in half with a zipper, open it slightly, then turn the wallet out.
- Sew the three sides of the wallet 1 cm from the edge. Start sewing from the end of the zipper to the bottom of the zipper.
- Trim the excess fabric and twist the wallet.

Similarly, but in dark colors you can make a man’s wallet with his own hands. More difficult option
As far as you noticed in this simplest option, your wallet will look ugly. There you will see a seam turned inward. This can be avoided if you spend a little more time at the typewriter. To do this, first you need to sew the front part to the zipper, and then, turning the zipper back - the wrong side. You need to do this so that the zipper is in the middle of two fabrics.
Now, when washing the wallet, you separately stitch the facial tissue, and leave a small hole in the wrong one. Through this hole you will need to turn out the finished product. Enough and five centimeters. Later, you sew it manually with hidden stitches. Do-it-yourself wallets of this type will look more professional and tidy.
