How to make a plasterboard arch yourself

Rounded arched structures instead of square rough openings look more attractive, giving the room a stylish, chamber and cosiness. Rounded forms, in addition, act on the psychological state of a person more beneficially. Therefore, if this does not contradict the style of the room, replace the rectangular opening in the wall with an arch, and you will see how it will transform, and drywall is quite suitable as a material for construction. A logical question arises: how to make an arch of drywall, and can it be built with your own hands? This work is simple. Anyone who has little experience with the material will cope with the task. And we will tell about what is required for this below.

How to make a plasterboard arch yourself

Consider the example of embedding an arch in a standard opening, whose height is 2 meters and a width of 80 cm.

1. Along the perimeter of the upper part of the opening to the same height and on both sides we fasten the UD-27 profile with self-tapping screws, attaching them at the same distance. The length of the profiles is approximately 1.6 meters. Now, from a sheet of drywall of a suitable size (i.e. at least 80 cm wide), it is necessary to cut two parts for the arch. To do this, mark the pattern on a solid flat surface. At the bottom of the sheet, stepping back a bit from the edge, make a hole. We measure 40 cm from it to the center and put a mark into which we screw a 40 cm metal profile with a self-tapping screw. At the end of this profile we fasten a pencil and, like a compass, draw a semicircular line of the required length from the hole made to the opposite edge of the sheet. Using the prepared pattern with a sharp knife, we cut out two identical parts, we apply them to the profile in the opening. If somewhere there were inconsistencies, we trim the parts with a knife, and cut off the excess profile with a grinder. After the final fitting of the parts, we fasten them to the profile with screws, deepening the caps so that they do not protrude.

2. Now we need to make two parts from the UD-27 profile, which are placed along the radius of the arch. First, we determine their length, which is calculated as follows: the Pi number (3.14) is multiplied by 2, then this value is multiplied by the radius of the circle (400 mm) and then everything is divided by 2. We cut the profile of the resulting length and cut it symmetrically with metal scissors into a distance of 30-40 mm along the entire length. We bend in the form of a semicircle, find the middle and fasten it to the arches on the wall from the inside from the center, first to one and then to the other side, combining the edges of the profile and drywall. We also fasten the second part on the other side of the opening.

3. Now we install the plasterboard part from below into the resulting arched structure. To do this, it is better to take a thin material, not more than 9.5 mm. We cut off the sheet of drywall of the desired size (it should already be an opening of 3-4 mm on each side). We need to bend it with an arch. In order to bend drywall without breaking it, first the material is rolled with a needle roller, making shallow holes over the entire surface, and then moistened with plenty of water - so that it penetrates through the made "pores" and the gypsum inside the sheet gets wet and softens. After that, the part bends easily, taking the desired shape. We fasten it to the curved profiles inside the opening. This part should smoothly enter the structure, carefully cut off any irregularities with a knife.

We hope, an example of how to make an arch of drywall, quite figuratively demonstrated to you the process of work. Now we begin to putty and seal joints. For the finishing work you will need a self-adhesive narrow building sickle, or the angle of the drywall construction can be fixed with a special thin metal corner, which is easily bent. Serpyanka glued to the corner, and then putty. Filling with putty is also necessary for all irregularities, cracks and indentations for self-tapping screws. After that, the interior arch is decorated with finishing materials.

Let's talk about how to make an arch from drywall with backlight. Such a design will become an additional decorative element in the room and will look very impressive. For illumination, built-in lamps are used, and for their installation it will be necessary to carry out preliminary electrical installation work. The wires are hidden in a drywall structure at the stage of its installation, before attaching the internal arched part. And in the part, respectively, they make holes for fixtures at an equal distance. After the design is completely assembled, plastered and finished, the lamps are inserted into the prepared places.

Amazing gypsum board material. With your own hands, you can do many different things from it, and the interior arch built with its help will become a stylish element of the interior.
