Silver Lake (Gatchina). Emerald miracle

There is a unique miraculous reservoir in the Gatchina Park ( Gatchina Museum-Reserve). Powerful, inexhaustible underground keys feed him. Cold pure vodka casts in emerald color, a miracle happens: the hydrosphere component, located in the Leningrad Region, acquires the appearance characteristic of water pearls of mountainous regions. This is Silver Lake. Probably, the reader already understood that it was about him.

Water - Pure Emerald

Crystal clear emerald tone gives the pond clay a greenish tint that strengthens the bottom. Transparent water, as if filled with magic light, beautifully silvering - a kind of visiting card of an unusual object, popular among tourists. It is thanks to the effect of sparkling glow that it is called short and noble - Silver Lake. By the way, the “neighbor” (White Lake) also boasts indescribable purity of water. But the main "drinker" of the inhabitants of Gatchina is still lake. Silver.

The bowl of “splashing emerald” is not round, but in the form of a growing moon (has the shape of a crescent). The depth of the lake is fourteen, the length is two hundred and fifty, and the width is up to 60 meters. The Polish-Russian scientist, inventor Stepan Karlovich Dzhevecki, demonstrated here an underwater mine vehicle (a prototype of a submarine). The trial was monitored by His Highness Emperor Alexander III (love of these places turned into him the nickname "Gatchina Hermit").

Underground passage

Especially beautiful Lake Silver looks from the palace towers. The panoramic view emphasizes its organicity, donated by nature itself, complemented by the “faceting” of the creations of human hands. It is said that under Count Orlov (one of the owners) the palace looked like a medieval English castle. There was an underground passage overlooking Silver Lake. A cave is visible on the shore, with a gaping “eye” covered by branches of shrubs. This is the way out of a gloomy cave called Echo. It is believed that the name appeared due to the unusual acoustic features of the structure.

The voices and steps of those walking along the stone slabs were repeated many times, shattered into echoes. The reflected sound created the illusion of the invisible presence of many people, which scared horror for a small group or even single people in a dark, enclosed space. After such a test of fear, Lake Serebryany seemed to be the whole bright paradise on Earth.

Rose is not afraid of frost

But do not raise echo fear to unprecedented heights. There is evidence that in the XVIII century, when there were no electronic games, one of the entertainment was to make noise in the grotto from the heart. There were even special chants for visitors (probably so that they would not “come off” some into the forest, some by firewood).

There is evidence that the children of Pavel Petrovich Romanov (Emperor Paul I) adored the Gatchina echo. Coming to the session, they screamed something like urine: “What flower is not afraid of frost? - Rose flower!" One can imagine how enthusiastically the young screamers listened in response: “Rose, oz, for!” Later, probably, they recalled entertainment sitting at Silver Lake.

Modern tourists are especially fond of chants: “Who ruled us? - Paul!" In general, go to Silver Lake (Gatchina), do not forget to look into the Echo. Here are the blanks for exclamations (we give!): “What is looking in your window? - The sun!"; “Our frame is not washed! - Mother!"; “Who gnaws reeds in the morning?” “The mouse!” "Who plucked my flowers?" - You!". Next yourself.

Hide and seek

In the 1770s, a stone pier appeared on Silver Lake. A secret staircase, an underground grotto and a mooring are components of a mysterious, mysterious complex. Silver Lake (Gatchina) likes to play hide and seek with people: if you look at it from the Long Island, it is either perfectly visible or disappears. This is an illusion that I really want to consider magic.

In September 1797, Catherine II received an honored guest, the Polish king Stanislav-August Poniatowski. Walking through the park without a year 210 years ago, the eminent Pole was struck by the beauty of the emerald pearl. In his travel diary, he noted that he saw the bottom at a depth of three fathoms (almost 5.5 m).

If you go down from heaven to earth, it can be noted that at the present time the Gatchins cannot claim that the water from Silver Lake is as clear as in the old days. Although the daily water intake is large and amounts to 12 thousand cubic meters, this does not change the matter: almost all the natural objects of the complex (including the unique Serebryannoe Lake) were polluted.
