Svante Swanteson and Carlson: A Little About Fairy-Tale Heroes

In the most ordinary house, on the most ordinary street, the most ordinary family lived. Do you remember this line? So begins the book, beloved by all Soviet children. Astrid Lindren gave us a meeting with wonderful heroes - fidget Carlson and Svante Svanteson.

A little about Baby

The kid is a seven-year-old boy living with mom, dad, older brother and sister. He feels lonely, despite a large family. A shy child who dreams of a dog, Svante Swanteson does not cause trouble for parents. Until a certain moment, until a new friend appears in the boy’s life. “A man in his prime”, acquaintance with whom upended the quiet life of the Kid.

What bosom friends did not do. Many people remember their adventures from a book or a cartoon: a joint trip to the roof, which almost led to a heart attack with the parents of Svante Swanteson, raising a harmful "housekeeper" Freken Bok and her fat red cat Matilda, fun games in the Kid’s apartment. He was always responsible for this kind of entertainment, for Carlson preferred to return to his quiet rooftop house when the Kid's parents appeared on the doorstep of the apartment.

Joint flight

Recall Carlson

A cheerful lover of whipped cream cake and jam, Svante Svanteson’s best friend has never been discouraged. Even at the time of a serious illness, urgently requiring jam treatment, he remained in his repertoire. Carlson was happy to visit the Kid, destroying the edible reserves of his family and destroying furniture. It is enough to recall what kind of rout the bosom friends arranged in the room of Svante Svanteson. The nickname of this character in the Russian-language edition is Kid. In the original, he was called Lillebror, translated into Russian as "brother".

When reading a book or watching a cartoon, you wondered who Carlson is? Hardly, because in the minds of children it is a noisy mischievous little man of indefinite age. Carlson calls himself "a man in his prime", lives on the roof in a small house, behind him a propeller, and in his head - a lot of ideas.

The original book mentions the parents of a little prankster. According to him, mom was a mummy, father - a dwarf. If you think carefully about the origin of the flying mess, you can conclude: he is not a man. Carlson's appearance is human, although distorted: of small stature, disproportionately thick, with a propeller behind him. But the mummy and the gnome, belonging to otherworldly forces, cannot become the person’s parents.

Joint games

The fabulous Svante Swanteson and his bosom friend arranged such antics that an adult's blood runs cold. About the flight to the roof mentioned above, the Kid had to be removed using the fire escape, and Carlson hid in his house, leaving the child all alone.

As for the "best ghost in the world, wild and pretty," which frightened thieves to a fainting state, there is a separate topic. To steal is bad, everyone knows this from childhood. But scaring thieves in the presence of a child, as Carlson did, is not much better. What would happen if they weren’t afraid, but tore off the sheet from the “ghost”, pressed a mop on the propeller and found the Kid?

However, adults think about this or that outcome of the situation, children just watch a cartoon about Svante Svanteson and Carlson, laughing at their adventures.

Two friends

Conclusion

A cartoon, as we recall, consists of several parts. In the first, they give the Baby a dog, and Carlson gets upset and flies away from him.

In the book of Astrid Lindgren, based on which the film was shot, a little differently. The appearance of the dog did not affect the relationship of Carlson and Svante Swanteson, nicknamed the Kid. They continue to play pranks, scoff at the housekeeper Freken Bock and enjoy life.
