Grassy peony (planting and care of which has recently become very popular) is a plant with large fleshy perennial rhizomes and annual shoots densely covered with leaves. The flowers of the final species, which in most cases are pink or white (very rarely yellow), have a strong and pleasant aroma. The leaves of the plant are quite large in size. Grassy peonies, planting and care of which is carried out in suburban areas, unlike wild varieties reach 140 centimeters in height. Their flowering period falls from May to the end of July. This garden plant has five main groups: terry, non-terry, semi-double, anemone and Japanese. Each of them has subspecies depending on the timing of flowering, use and color of flowers.
Landing place
For a flower like a grassy peony, planting and care begins with the choice of a planting location. In this case, preference must be given to an open and well-lit area, because in conditions of deep shade it is almost impossible to achieve flowering. Unsuitable are those places to the surface of which groundwater comes close, because in this case the roots can rot. As for the soil, it is best that the soil for such a plant as a grassy peony, planting and care of which is carried out on their own, be loamy and not very acidic. Before freezing, flower stems are cut off at ground level and burned. This ash must be sprinkled with places where there are remains of stems with roots.
Planting and care
Grassy peonies can be planted and transplanted exclusively in autumn. Each of the bushes is recommended to be placed at a distance of at least one meter from the neighboring, because grassy peonies grow very quickly. The landing site should be prepared in advance, tentatively - per month. Pits 60x60x60 centimeters in size are filled with a mixture of compost, humus, garden earth and sand in equal proportions. Moreover, it is advisable to add approximately 500 g of bone meal and one tablespoon of iron sulfate. All the space that remains should be filled with garden soil. By the beginning of landing, the place will be compacted and will not sag. For a plant such as a grassy peony, planting and care involves constant dressing, mulching and watering. It is necessary to feed the plant three times, starting from the second week of May with an interval of three weeks. Watering is not very often, but plentiful (at the rate of 2-3 buckets per adult bush). After it, the soil must be loosened.
Propagation of grassy peonies
The grassy peony, the photo of which is located on the left, can be propagated by several methods at once - division, layering or cuttings. As for the wild species, they have this process due to the seeds. Division of the bush is considered the most common and effective method of reproduction. In this case, the dividend, which has a part of the rhizome up to 15 centimeters long and 2-3 kidneys of renewal, acts as a landing unit. It should be noted that grassy peonies are planted in various places, but when decorating your site, you should give preference to varieties with an original shape and beautiful flowers.
