How to install an outlet on your own

Few people think about what could happen if all the electrical outlets suddenly stopped working. This indispensable and familiar attribute of each room is paid attention only when the outlet suddenly begins to sparkle or even stops working. This happens, as a rule, in those cases when an incorrect installation was made or the wrong type of this device was selected. Therefore, each home master needs to know how to install the outlet correctly in order to avoid unpleasant situations afterwards.

Today on sale you can find various types and types of sockets, differing from each other in their functional purpose, shape, color, degree of protection. As for the appearance parameters, in this case it is best to rely on your own taste. If we talk about the functions, here you should be more careful when buying, because there are both ordinary devices and special “Euro sockets” that need to be installed to connect devices that require grounding. In addition, sockets are internal and external. The latter are intended for installation in places where the electric wire is located directly on the wall.

There are several basic rules regarding how to install the outlet correctly. According to existing standards, the outlet should be located 110 centimeters from the floor. True, in recent years, the so-called European standard has been increasingly used and installed sockets slightly higher than floor skirtings, which allows you to place wires directly on the floor and makes their location more inconspicuous and aesthetic. The only drawback of this option is that if there are small children in the family, then it is better to install sockets with a secure entrance. From all kinds of pipelines, the outlet should be separated by a distance of at least half a meter, and the electrical wires going to it should be placed 15 centimeters higher from the floor. This is necessary so as not to damage the wiring during installation of skirting boards.

For installation, a hidden and open method is used. How to install the outlet in an open way, usually no one has any special questions, because in this case all the wires and terminals of the outlet are in plain sight. The only thing you must remember to do is install a special protective gasket under it and leave a small supply of electrical wire (just in case).

As for the question of how to install the socket in a hidden way, it all depends on what actions are generally planned: the usual replacement of a faulty device or installing a new one. Replacing the old outlet is quite simple, for this you just need to twist the old one and attach a new one in its place. But in order to conduct a new electrical wiring, you will have to slot in the wall a groove for wires and a niche for a new outlet. For this purpose, it is best to use a punch, for lack of the latter, a chisel will do. An electric wire is inserted into the gutter, its ends are threaded into a mounting box, which is fixed in the hole with gypsum mortar or alabaster. After drying the solution, you can safely connect the outlet. All remaining electrical wiring grooves in the wall should be carefully coated with plaster or cement. You can use the device only when the solution is completely dry.

When carrying out all installation works for electrical wiring, it is necessary to carefully observe safety rules, which are not so complicated. It is enough to disconnect the electricity from the main network, after which you can safely proceed to the above steps.

These simple useful tips on how to install the outlet on your own will help the home foreman to carry out all installation work without assistance, efficiently and quickly.
