DIY weaving newspapers - my experience and my achievements

The whole year in my life was occupied by moving. Changing cities and addresses, my husband and I traveled through the expanses of Asia. Having settled for a while in one city, then they moved to the next. Therefore, I could not get a job or make many friends.

Being a completely lazy person by nature, I could not sit still idle for more than 20 minutes. In search of a lesson, I stumbled upon a stack of newspapers and magazines collected by a housekeeper. And then a brilliant idea came to me: what if we started to study weaving from newspapers with our own hands? After wandering around the Internet, I was surprised and delighted to find a lot of workshops and lessons on how to weave articles from newspapers. Of course, I was immediately inspired by the beautiful pictures and the final results.

In the drawings, everything seemed very simple and understandable. In fact, everything turned out to be much more complicated. Firstly, newspaper tubes did not want to be as elegant and slender as they were shown on sites. Secondly, weaving newspapers with our own hands is a rather laborious process for a beginner: my first basket was obtained only after 5 hours. And I didn’t live up to my expectations. But so far this box is my favorite: after all, it was she who began my fascination with newspaper weaving. This is my first creation:

To achieve a good result, one should take into account both the direction of weaving and the angle of inclination of the knitting needle, onto which you wind a piece of paper. Also, do not forget to maintain the tension of the tube and glue its tip with glue. The longest process is the preparation of the tubes. Then you need to choose a technique: weaving from newspapers and magazines can be spiral, one tube or several. Before proceeding directly to weaving, you can paint the tubes in the desired color so that you do not suffer from staining with miniature bends.

Spiral weaving from newspapers with their own hands gave the following results: this miniature casket serves as a repository of my bead crafts.

Somehow the idea came to my mind not to weave tubes together, but to glue them together. From the glued canvas I made a bottle stand and a jewelry holder.

Weaving newspapers with our own hands is a rather versatile and diverse occupation. From newspapers you can build not only a variety of caskets, but also jewelry, and bags, and furniture.
