One of the largest artificial reservoirs in Belarus is the Minsk Sea. In fact, this is the Zaslavsky reservoir, but its area turned out to be so impressive that Minsk residents involuntarily dubbed it their sea.

Historical facts
Initially, a small village and a peat plant built on a swamp were located on the site of the Zaslavsky reservoir. In May 1953, as part of a flood control project that constantly threatened Minsk and the surrounding territories, directed explosions were made that cleared the place for the dam. For the first time in history, the foundation for a hydraulic structure was laid with the help of explosions, timed to coincide with Victory Day. After 3 years, the construction of the reservoir, whose length is about 10 km, was completed.
