The Grodno Glory Mound is a memorial complex erected in memory of the defenders of the Fatherland who died during the Great Patriotic War. This is a small mound, at the foot of which is an exhibition of military equipment. Climb to the top by specially equipped paths.
History
The Mound of Glory appeared in the second half of the 60s of the last century. The laying of the memorial complex was carried out 09/17/1968. The grand opening of the historical monument took place on 09/17/1969. The memorial complex was erected to perpetuate the memory of soldiers who died fighting for Belarus during the Great Patriotic War, the October Revolution and the Civil War for the reunification of the western part of the country with the BSSR. For this, land was brought from the mass graves of the heroes of the Soviet Union, the Red Army and from each district of the Grodno region. It took less than a year to erect a historic memorial complex.
Modern look
The Mound of Glory in Grodno is laid out in the shape of a truncated cone. Its height is 18 meters, and the diameter of the base is 56 meters. The memorial complex is surrounded by a monolithic ring of concrete, which has plastered lining on the outside. In the eastern part of the historical monument is a rally square; to the left of it you can see the Eternal Flame, and to the right - a plate with commemorative inscriptions. 2 stairs lead to the top of the Mound. Near the memorial complex is the Alley of Heroes and an exhibition of military equipment.
Now near the memorial you can see:
- IS-2 : heavy Soviet tank.
- ISU-152 : heavy Soviet self-propelled artillery mount.
- IS-3 : Soviet-made tank; it has an unusual shape in the frontal zone of the hull, therefore it is called "Pike".
- T-62 : medium Soviet tank, which was produced in 1961-1975.
- BRDM : armored reconnaissance patrol vehicle.
- BTR-60 : Soviet-made armored personnel carrier.
- 31-K : anti-aircraft gun, which was used to defend against low-flying enemy aircraft.
- BMP-1 : Soviet infantry fighting vehicle, intended for transportation to the front edge of the personnel.
The equipment park on the territory of the Mound of Glory has replenished with a new exhibit
On April 10 of this year, the SU-24MP plane was brought to the territory of the memorial complex in Grodno. A new exhibit has expanded the collection of military equipment. The "Scout" was brought from Baranavichy from the 116th air base of the village of Ross (Volkovysk district of the Grodno region). 05/09/2014 the equipment was brought into display. Specialists of the city executive committee said that the tactical aircraft of the reconnaissance class SU-24MR should become a worthy decoration of the memorial complex, which is the Barrow of Glory in Grodno. History aircraft, its features, information about the duty station is presented on a special information stand, which is located near the exhibit. The SU-24MR is a reminder of the Belarusian pilots who died in the war defending their homeland. A new exhibit is a duty of honor to all military pilots.

Historical background of the Russian "intelligence": SU-24MR is a Russian tactical reconnaissance aircraft. It is used for complex reconnaissance both day and night. The first tests were started in the fall of 1980. The aircraft took up arms in 1984, and a year later its deliveries to the Air Force began.
Belarusian Republican Youth Union plans to equip the Barrow of Glory
In the near future, the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee is to approve the start of youth construction near the memorial complex in Grodno. The Mound of Glory will be reconstructed. According to experts, the project will require about 30 billion bel. rubles. Near the memorial, paths, green spaces, granite slabs with commemorative inscriptions will be updated. It is planned to create an alley in memory of the soldiers-internationalists of Grodno, who died while performing military duty in Afghanistan. The Mound of Glory should become a youth construction site of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union. Its update will be completed by the 70th anniversary of the Victory of the country. Local authorities want to modernize the complex so that commemorative events and military-patriotic actions can be organized on its territory. This spring, on the Barrow, cosmetic repairs were made and the territory was landscaped.

The Mound of Glory is located on Kosmonavtov Avenue (Grodno, Grodno Region). From Grodno to the historical monument can be reached by bus number 20, which follows from Dombrovsky street to the Plant Management. The stop is called: "Barrow of Glory."
The history of the memorial complex and its appearance are interesting not only to the residents of Grodno. People from different parts of Belarus and neighboring countries come to admire the monument. From Minsk to Kurgan can be reached by trains 057 or 077, which run once a day. The average journey time is 6 hours. By the way, train 077 follows from Moscow.
