Kostroma is an ancient city of Russia, located on the Volga River. In the modern village there are 280 thousand people. The city with a developed infrastructure and many attractions is located 350 km from Moscow. The flag and coat of arms of Kostroma, the description of which is presented below, appeared one of the first during the emergence of the provinces.
History
The city was first mentioned in 1213 in the annals. It was founded in 1152. In the XIII century there was an independent principality, which later joined the Moscow VK. In the XIV century, Kostroma became the largest trade and craft center of Russia. The city did not have its coat of arms for a long time. However, in 1719, when the Kostroma province was formed, this settlement separated from Moscow. And in 1740, an important symbol of power appeared - the emblem.
The appearance of the coat of arms
The first coat of arms of Kostroma is an image of a cross under the crown. However, Catherine II did not allow further use of it with a similar meaning. She decides to make a trip to Tver, where the fleet was located. They took Catherine II at the highest level - fireworks, triumphal arches, the sound of bells. All classes came to bow to the Empress. The ruler was delighted with such a reception. Her next visit came in 1767. This year, she indicated some amendments, or rather, to place the Tver Gallery on the coat of arms of Kostroma. The royal galley with the imperial gold crown is depicted on a blue canvas in the form of a river. On the shield you can see natural colors, - as it was said in historical reports.
The described Russian center is the only settlement that has been honored to have its own symbol. It was the emblem of the city that helped to resolve some of the city affairs. Kostroma began to flourish rapidly. Local authorities gratefully accepted Catherineβs gracious gesture. Later, in the XVIII century, the granting of emblems to the cities of Russia became a frequent occurrence.
Coat of arms development
In 1796, the creation of the Kostroma province took place . Paul I admits a change in the coat of arms. So Kostroma received a different symbol. The summary says: βA shield divided into 4 parts. Red - a silver cross, 2 and 3 - a golden color, green - a month point down. " The coat of arms of Kostroma was depicted on the banners of 4 regiments of militias. Flags were created in 1812 during the war. The coat of arms has not changed for 80 years. During this time, he was placed on Susaninskaya Square on the monument. In 1878, Kenet proposed to return the version of Catherine II, under the pretext of improvement. Allegedly, the ship depicted on the coat of arms is sailing in the Volga waters. In this form, it existed until 1917. It was decorated in the form of a blue shield, inside which the ship "Varyag" floats. The bow is made in the form of an eagle, wings are on the nose, there is a sail and a flag. On the shield is a crown with oak leaves and ribbon.
After the 1917 revolution, the coat of arms of Kostroma changed again. And in 2002, editing of the city symbol took place again. It is now that the historically correct version has been returned - a gold galley floats on blue waters. White sails removed. There are 10 rowers on the gallery, swimming to the left. The mast is decorated with the Royal Standard.
