Plot: Cellar Do It Yourself

When arranging a cottage or personal plot, a lot of attention is paid to the very pleasant little things that create the very unique cosiness that no one else has. The cellar is no exception.

Of course, you can completely do without it - in every family there is some kind of refrigeration equipment. But only when you build a cellar with your own hands, then you will understand that no complex household appliances can replace it, and you will be surprised how you still lived without it ...

To begin with, let's try to figure out what the whole charm of the cellar is. Its most important advantage is its stable temperature. There can be severe frost or terrible African heat on the street, and the cellar will always be cool and maintained at a temperature ideal for storing vegetables from one to four degrees of heat.

Why is that? Probably, many of us, maybe even in childhood, for some reason having got into a hole, accidentally or intentionally, noticed that even in the hottest weather it is cool there. So in a cellar dug in the ground, a constant temperature is maintained. And since if you know how to make a cellar and deepen it by two meters, the push of freezing will be higher, then the cellar itself will not freeze even in the coldest winters.

As soon as we find out how to build a cellar, it will be possible to proceed directly to the construction, choosing the place most suitable for it. Do-it-yourself cellar is best arranged on a slightly elevated place, so that rainwater drains from there without stopping or soaking into the ground.

An interesting option how to build a cellar can be its device in a country house or under a summer kitchen. There is no point in discussing the advantages of this option - they are there. Only you need to carefully monitor so that the cellar constructed in this way does not weaken the foundation of the structure. For some guarantees, it’s better to immediately build it separately and not risk it.

First, they dig a pit to a depth of two to two and a half meters. Sizes are selected according to specific requests. So in the future cellar you need to provide a place for canned food, for vegetables and fruits separately. And when choosing a size, you can be guided by the rule: the larger the family, the larger the cellar. There are no standard sizes, but practice shows that a 4x2 meter cellar is enough for an average family.

After leveling the bottom, lay the walls. For this, stone, concrete rings and blocks, brick and wood are used. You can leave the walls and simply earthen or plastered on the grid, but this is if the soil is homogeneous and dense. But for reliability, which was always in honor in Russia, walls are still better to lay out, while not forgetting careful waterproofing.

If the so-called construction waste forms, then it is better not to throw it away, but to tamp it into the ground so that the floor in the cellar is always hygienic and dry. For the same purpose, add fine gravel and sand.

The constructed walls of the cellar should stand a little, after which the cellar should be covered with their own hands and a layer of earth necessary for thermal insulation should be poured on top. How to make a cellar? There are some secrets here. So the cellar, the entrance to which is located on the side, is a continuous overlap, and when entering from above, a window is cut through the ceiling and a powerful box is arranged in it, closing it with a lid on top. The overlap is arranged wooden - from a bar or logs. At the same time, double-sided waterproofing is arranged.

Exhaust ventilation is mandatory. At the end of excavation, it is quite logical to build a small construction site over the pit for household needs. Do-it-yourself cellar can be made completely exclusive ...
