The Yekaterinburg Metro is the last metro in the Soviet Union, opened in 1991. In Russia, this is the sixth metro opening, which is the only one in the entire Urals region.
History of the Yekaterinburg metro
The construction of the Sverdlovsk Metro began in the distant 1980. Only 11 years later, the subway opened its doors to the first passengers. Then it included only three stations. Already in 1992, a new station was opened, and two years later - two more. The following three stations were opened in 2002, 2011 and 2012. To date, the Yekaterinburg metro has nine stations on the same line with a length of 12.7 kilometers.

Among all the small subways in Russia, the Yekaterinburg metro stands out for its diverse decorative design of the stations.
- "Prospect Cosmonauts" - a station made of reinforced concrete structures and steel columns. The walls of the station are faced with black marble.
- “Uralmash” - the arch is made of reinforced concrete, and the station walls are decorated with metal bas-reliefs.
- “Mashinostroiteley” - the station is faced with a green coil and white marble, and the floor is laid with polished granite.
- Uralskaya station is made of precast concrete.
- The walls and floor of the Dynamo station are faced with marble and granite, and at the end of the platform is a prototype of a sculpture of an ancient Greek discus thrower.
- The central station “Area 1905” is faced with red granite and white marble.
- The walls of the three-tier station "Geological" are decorated with Ural stone.
- The Chkalovskaya station has a gently sloping ceiling that is made in the shape of an airplane wing.
- The “Botanical” station resembles a bee hive - hexagons in the form of honeycombs are located on the ceiling.
