Floor waterproofing: methods and methods

Waterproofing the floor in the house may be required in cases where housing is located in a region that is characterized by high humidity or a large amount of precipitation during the year . A significant impact on the condition of foundations and floors in buildings can have a level of groundwater in the ground. Therefore, waterproofing the floor (without taking into account the mandatory work of isolating the basement and foundation from the water) is a necessity that will prevent decay of wood materials and protect the concrete foundation of the house.

For the high-quality performance of work and to prevent the ingress of excess moisture inside, it is necessary to use modern methods that have their drawbacks and advantages.

The waterproofing of the floor differs in the way of laying the insulating material, it can be glued, injected, plaster, coated and other types. When performing work, use metal, asphalt, plastic, mineral and other materials. Measures to ensure waterproofing are aimed at preventing the entry of groundwater or protecting against corrosion of the materials of which the floors are made.

The most reliable and high quality is cast waterproofing of the floor. In the process of its installation, a polymer special composition is used, which should be poured into the formwork. After it hardens, an absolutely waterproof, durable coating is formed. For the production of molded waterproofing, foam materials and epoxy compounds are also used.

Similar to the first method is the filling method. In the process, a bulk composition is used as an insulating material, with which the corresponding cavities are filled.

Waterproofing of the concrete floor, as well as wooden floors, can be done by painting with varnish having a bitumen or polymer base. Similar methods are simple and cheap. However, they have a number of drawbacks, and when exposed to negative temperatures, the coating begins to collapse, cracks form in it, initially small, and eventually deeper. The material gradually loses its properties, elasticity, flexibility and other characteristics. Such floor waterproofing can last no more than five years.

To equip the coating, an impregnation protection method is also used. To do this, a protective composition is applied to the surface, which has a sufficiently high ability to penetrate into the layers of the structure, and thus protects the floor from moisture. The oklekay method involves surface treatment using sheet or roll insulation material. Gluing is carried out in layers on a pre-primed surface, by means of hot mounting.

More reliable is the plaster method of organizing the protection of floors from moisture. In this way, the basement floor can be waterproofed. In the process, the cement composition is applied to any surface that must be prepared in advance. In this case, to improve the composition, you can add special fillers from polymers. This method allows the simultaneous use of ceramic tile lining.

Work on the waterproofing device may depend on the type and type of floor, operating conditions. However, nothing should prevent the protection from being carried out carefully, reliably and accurately. Since other work in the house will subsequently depend on the quality of the waterproofing, which can be prevented by rust formation or seepage of groundwater into the room. In addition, it is important to attach importance to the selection of materials and methods, as well as the correctness of preliminary surface preparation.
