Colloquium - what is it? How does he not look like a lecture? What is the most important difference between one type of study and another? A lecture is a teacher’s monologue, and a colloquium is a dialogue between students and a teacher, who also acts as a leader. It partly resembles a familiar school lesson.
The colloquium is based on the teacher’s communication with a group of students. Its main goal is the development of practical skills of the profession.
Colloquium - what is it?
During such seminars, the following may be held:
- oral lessons (including communication on the topic, controversy);
- control and verification work;
- discussion and defense of abstracts, reports.
During the colloquium, students polemicize with each other, and the teacher observes them as an arbitrator.
The task of the teacher is to stimulate students' activity with leading questions, comments.
The plan, essence and purpose of the seminars
Whatever your future plans, whether you intend to attend each lesson as an exemplary student or decide to appear at the institute from time to time, good advice to you - be sure to attend at least the first seminars. What for?
Firstly, you will recognize your teacher, and he will see you, which may not be so desirable, but inevitable. Better this happen at the beginning of the school year, and not on the set-off as a gift for Catholic Christmas (December 25), which can result in the set-off before the Valentine's Day (February 14).
Secondly, you will learn the plan, essence and purpose of the seminars, that is:
- Colloquium - what is it and why do you need it.
- What will you do all semester or year.
- How will the seminars be held.
- With what results you will have to come to the test session.
- What books and textbooks you will need to read.
- What will need to do written work and reports.
Perhaps the seminar leader will be able to intrigue you, you will come again, then again, you may like it, and you will go to classes constantly.
Recording and analysis of teacher questions
The main time of the seminar is devoted to a detailed analysis of the assignment issued the day before with the receipt of questions for the future lesson at the end.
So, you got the task. Usually this:
- A few questions to the colloquium that need to be answered using different sources (the teacher gives the names of books and articles that should be read, and indicates in which library you can find them).
- A dozen tasks, with the answer and with a detailed analysis of the progress of the solution of which you will need to familiarize the group and the teacher.
- A few graphs that need to be built.
- A pair of drawings of greater or lesser degree of complexity, which will be presented as homework to the teacher or put up for general discussion.
- A few labs, the results (or progress) of which you will have to demonstrate in the next lesson.
The task can be individual or collective. All points of the assignment are recommended to be written down completely. If you have not heard, check with the teacher, not a friend. If the question is not entirely clear to you, it is also better to contact the seminar leader for clarification of what exactly he had in mind and what you did not understand.
Most teachers give the task in a form that is already ready for use, dividing the big question into subparagraphs as much as possible. If it is given in its most general form, it is worth breaking one question into several parts so as not to try to grasp the immensity, but to do the work gradually, moving from one logical block to another.
Assignment
Having understood for yourself how to start work, feel free to take it. If it includes the search for an answer to a certain question of a practical or theoretical plan, then the workshop leader most likely gave you a list of recommended materials. If you are not too lazy, you can find something useful in the library catalog besides this list.
Having found the necessary materials, you must decide for yourself, at home or in the library, you are more comfortable with the task. If you prefer the native penates, then you should inquire about the availability of printed materials of interest to you (both books and magazines) on the subscription, and not just in the reading room. And the presence of not only the catalog, theoretical, but also real.
It is better to start the task ahead of time, without waiting for the last day before the corresponding lesson. Keep in mind that for everything you have no more than a week from one seminar to another. Do not tighten, start early. Otherwise, you may encounter a lot of problems.
A colloquium is more than just an educational lesson. It provides an opportunity not only to learn new things, but also to express your opinion.
