After the first published novel, he takes one of the highest places in the list of best-selling French writers.
Guillaume Musseau’s books are widely known today in many countries outside France - they are translated into 36 languages, their total circulation exceeds 25 million copies, several Musso’s novels have been made into films. What is the success of this young novelist, how did he come to him?
It all started with a love of reading
He was born in 1974 in the town of Antibes near Nice, where the Alps merge with the Cote d'Azur. He says that his path to writing is ordinary - it began with a love of reading. This passion was born that summer when he was ten years old. He spent most of the time in the library where his mother worked. There he was surrounded only by books. Guillaume Musso was initially carried away only by comics, but the very first real story - "Wuthering Heights" by Charlotte Bronte - opened the whole world to him. He fearlessly took up the multi-page volumes - “War and Peace”, “Anna Karenina” “Madame Bovary” - and realized how exciting the opportunity to create your own texts is.

In grade 10, a French teacher organized a literary competition for students , and Guillaume Musseau won it. He recalls that it was a romantic story, saturated with supernatural motives in the spirit of Stephen King. Classmates praised the first experience of the future novelist, and the teacher recommended Guillaume to think about a professional lesson in literature.
American footprint
He considers himself a real Frenchman. He loves his country, its language, but the action of many stories written by Musso occurs in New York. This is no coincidence - after school he spent several months in Manhattan, working as an ice cream seller for 70–80 hours a week, spending the night in a hostel where people from countries scattered all over the world lived.
He was filled with the multinational spirit of this city, felt his vibration, realized how he can influence a modern person, changing the course of his life - both everyday and long-term. It was an invaluable experience on which many of his books are based. Upon his return to France, Guillaume Musso was overwhelmed with ideas, plots, images, and his first book, the thriller Skidamarink, published in 2001, was soon written. Its plot is tied around the theft from the Louvre of the famous “Mona Lisa” - here Musso was four years ahead of the famous “Da Vinci Code” by Dan Brown.
Professor of Economics and Sociology
After returning from the United States, Guillaume enters the University of Nice at the Faculty of Economics. Then, having received the title of bachelor, he continues his studies in Montpellier and receives the right to teach economics and sociology in high school. Since 1999, he has been teaching at the high school - college in Falsburg in the department of Alsace-Lorraine in the south of France, and since 2003 - at the International Education Center in Valbonne, in the Maritime Alps. But readers were already waiting for the release of a new book by Guillaume Musso. For many years now, the list of France’s best-sellers cannot do without his novels.
Once Guillaume falls into a terrible car accident: his car turned into scrap metal, and he only miraculously avoided serious injuries. This prompted him to reflect on the fine line between life and death, which became the main theme of his next book. Guillaume Musso was waiting for real success: his novel “After ...” (Et après ...) was seen by readers all over the world, received the Italian literary award “For the best love novel”.
Critics note the particular cinematography of the stories created by Musso, and this novel was the writer’s first experience in this field. In 2008, the film was released according to his script, called Afterwards ("Hostage of Death"). The main roles in it were played by: Romain Duris and two real Hollywood stars - Evangeline Lilly and John Malkovich.
Creative method
When a writer is asked about what he sees as the reason for the success of his works, he does not reveal some mystical secrets, which are full in his novels, but says obvious things. He is convinced that the main skill of the writer is the ability to captivate the reader. The main motive for his daily and hard work, he considers the creation of his own world, in which he will be interested in himself, and therefore the potential reader of each new book by Guillaume Musso. Reviews of fans of his work around the world speak of his ability to captivate others with his fantasies.
To force the reader to follow events with enthusiasm that will not allow him to put the book aside, to give the text a multilayer, in which purely entertaining moments are intertwined with episodes that prompt serious thought - this is how he concretizes his goals before him at the beginning of a new book. Judging by the fact that each fresh Musso's novel receives increasingly high marks from literary observers and ordinary readers, his writing skills are growing.
