On the second floor, where the workshop of the great artist was located, his works are presented, presented earlier by him to his mother and brother.

A bit of history

Surikov's house-museum (Krasnoyarsk) is preserved to our time almost in its original form. It was built by the father of a brilliant artist, as they say, without a single nail, from larch. Only the outbuilding built by the brother of Vasily underwent changes. He always returned to this house, already being known as a talented painter. Here, until the end of her days, the artist’s mother lived, Cossack Praskovya Fedorovna Surikova, as well as his brother Alexander. With his brother V.I. Surikov was very close spiritually, trusting him with his thoughts and impressions, especially in the difficult period for Vasily, after the death of his wife. It was Alexander who inspired Vasily to write “Taking the Snowy Town”. This masterpiece appeared precisely in the walls of the father’s house.

This building is also unique in that high officials and public figures, as well as researcher Fridtjof Nansen, stayed in it. Vasily was attracted and fascinated by Siberian nature. He admired the fast and clean Yenisei, the mountains, as if completely consisting of precious stones. Arriving in his land, he worked a lot on landscapes.

At the end of 2002, a monument to the great artist was erected on the estate.
Surikov Art Museum (Krasnoyarsk) collects, preserves, popularizes cultural heritage. Its founders pursue the main goal - to educate the public, introducing them to the wealth of art and culture.
