Childhood and family
Dmitry Alekseevich Glukhovsky was born in Moscow on June 12, 1979. The Glukhovsky family has a long and interesting history. His maternal relatives live in the village of Manturovo, Kostroma region. Dmitry was sent there every summer so that he could breathe air and join the village life. There he had to collect pests in the garden, chop wood, carry water from a well, help his grandmother bake pies in a Russian stove. This is despite the fact that on his paternal side he came from a professor's family.
Dima's great-grandfather was an outstanding urologist. It was from him that a luxurious apartment remained in the Arbat house. Glukhovsky’s grandfather was a geologist, a traveler, and after a while his grandmother divorced him and married the artist of the Crocodile magazine, the son of one of the famous KUKRINIKS.
Dmitry's parents studied at the journal faculty together, but after the birth of her son, her mother focused on raising a rather painful Dima. Dmitry’s father worked for the State Radio and Television, was a reporter, and also translated Serbian poetry. He also wrote his own poems. It was the picture of how father sits in the evenings in the kitchen and knocks on his typewriter, which became the most vivid childhood memory of Dmitry. Later, Dmitry received this device from his father “as an inheritance”.
Dmitry decided to become a writer in early childhood, and he did not wait when he grew up, but immediately began to write his novel about politics, Lenin, about life in the USSR. Glukhovsky was a very gifted child - he began to read and write at the age of 2.5.
Education
Glukhovsky Dmitry Alekseevich already knew quite a lot about school, so he was bored of studying at a well-known school on the Arbat with in-depth study of the French language. This school was a kind of hereditary in the family of Dmitry - his grandmother studied in it, then his father. Dmitry studied well, but physics and astronomy were difficult for him. But then his ability to invent fascinating games, which the whole school gradually began to play, already showed itself.
When Dmitry graduated from high school, his father urged him to become an economist. None of the relatives believed that the young man really decided to become a writer.
At the time of its release, there was a big fashion for studying abroad, and his parents were able to send Dmitry to Israel. There, he first studied Hebrew for six months, then studied for six months at preparatory courses, and then entered the University of Jerusalem at the Faculty of Social Sciences with a specialization in economics and journalism. Everything turned out not very well with the economy, but with journalism he got along right away.
Work as a journalist
Upon graduation, journalist Dmitry Glukhovsky Dmitry goes to work in France on the EuroNews channel. For three years he worked enthusiastically as a correspondent, but soon he was bored. This, according to him, is his big trouble - he gets bored pretty quickly. Then he found himself a new exciting job: he became a correspondent for Russia Today. Here he was able to combine journalism and travel: he traveled to about 50 countries, met with a variety of people. His specialization was military journalism. Dmitry is one of the best hot spot reporters today. He tried himself in the role of a radio and television presenter, but this did not captivate him for a long time. Today he leads columns in the magazines Snob and GQ.
First book
Dmitry Alekseevich Glukhovsky began writing his first novel, Metro 2033, while he was still at school. Then, over the course of 15 years, he worked on the book between the works and in 2002 finished it. He began to send the manuscripts to the editors, persistently awaiting the review, until he was advised by one publishing house to completely rewrite the final of the novel. Then he realized that he would not be able to print, and the young writer really wanted to know the opinion of people about his work.
By this time, Glukhovsky was already an advanced Internet user. And he decided that the easiest way to find his reader is to put the book on the Web. So he became the pioneer of "network literature" in Russia. Dmitry made a website, uploaded a book and started inviting people from various forums about science fiction, asking him to read it and express his opinion. The audience received the novel very well, although there were critics pointing to various inaccuracies. Two years later, the novel was published in paper form, and two years later it was reprinted.
To date, this novel remains the most famous book of Glukhovsky.
Creation
Dmitry’s second book, Twilight, has also become a national bestseller. This mystic fiction story is dedicated to the description of the apocalypse. In his novels, Glukhovsky often reflects on the eternal and the personal, in each of his works there are reminiscences from the author’s private history or references to events from the life of friends.
To date, Glukhovsky has published five novels, several collections of short stories and individual short stories. The last novel to date is Metro 2035, written by Dmitry Glukhovsky in 2015. This work completed the series on the metro, and the author says that he has exhausted this topic for himself.
