Ceiling skirting: DIY installation

The ceiling plinth makes it possible to make the ceiling beautiful and elegant, while not spending much effort and not incurring large expenses. In addition, with its help, it is possible to hide small cracks and defects in the joining of the wall with the ceiling. Also, the ceiling plinth is ideal for creating a border on the wall.

Plinths ceiling can have a variety of forms. A skirting board with longitudinal recesses is called extruded, with a smooth surface - laminated, with the presence of convex, bas-relief patterns - injection. The skirting board is also called molding. The ability to simulate gypsum stucco molding allows you to create a classic room interior. Plaster stucco molding, in comparison with polyurethane and polystyrene, from which ceiling skirtings are made, is quite heavy. The baseboard, painted in the color of a stone or any kind of wood, looks so that it is almost impossible to distinguish it from natural materials.

Plinth ceiling polyurethane has a long service life. But no matter what ceiling plinth you use, there is only one rule: immediately after installation, it is necessary to open it with a protective layer of paint to prevent yellowing. A great option would be a water based paint.

The ceiling plinth, the installation of which begins with priming, will hide the flaws in the corners of the ceiling and wall. The corners must be primed a little wider than the ceiling baseboard itself. To make the markings, we need a measurement with the same dimensions, which we apply to the wall and draw small lines on the wall every 20-30 cm.

Next we need to adjust the internal corners. With perfectly even angles, you can use the miter box. Otherwise, it is necessary to attach the baseboard and draw a line on both sides of the corner, the place of intersection of these lines (on the ceiling) will be a mark. By re-applying baseboards, we transfer this mark to them. Then, using a hacksaw with small teeth, we cut off the corner of the baseboard (the line from the upper extreme corner of the baseboard to the mark).

The ideal solution for fixing the ceiling skirting is the use of acrylic sealant, which is applied with a special gun. The use of this sealant allows not only to glue the baseboard, but also to immediately seal the joints. Apply sealant directly to the baseboard. Then, exposing it according to the previously applied marks, we press the baseboard with a little effort to the wall and ceiling. Remove the excess acrylic sealant with your finger, then wipe the corners with a slightly damp sponge. It should be noted that, when installing the adjacent baseboards, the sealant must also be applied to their ends.

Upon completion of the installation of ceiling skirting boards in the entire room, it is necessary to carefully examine all the corners and seams: it may be necessary to re-close them in some places. Using acrylic putty and a rubber spatula, it is also necessary to close the transverse joints of the skirting boards. As a rule, this is done by applying three layers of putty, after it dries, these places are sanded. The final moment of installation of the ceiling plinth will be its painting in the required color.
