Plant description

These flowers were bred by the German selection house Kordes in 2003. Excellent decorative qualities, resistance to diseases characteristic of roses, were awarded the Bagatelle quality certificate and the prize at the Hradec Kralove at the International Rose Competition. Rosa Amadeus, thanks to the jewelry work of Kordes breeders, has found a delightful aroma, consisting of notes of raspberry, cherry and apricot.

Each grower will agree that it is much more pleasant to grow climbing roses (reviews confirm this), which are easy to care for, get sick as little as possible, tolerate winter without loss and bloom profusely and beautifully. It would seem that all these characteristics cannot be collected in one plant. Nevertheless, all these requirements of gardeners correspond to the rose Amadeus. It is suitable even for a novice flower lover.

pruning roses for the winter

When you plant a seedling of this variety in a sunny place, very soon you will see bright large flowers gathered in a brush with the scent of a wild rose. They will delight you all summer, because it is a remontant (blooming twice a season) variety. At the same time, the flowers are completely not afraid of wind and rain, do not fade in the sun.

Photos of climbing roses can often be seen in floriculture and landscape design publications. Therefore, many of our readers know that such roses can have a huge height - up to six meters. Rosa Amadeus is one of the lowest species. The height of the bush does not exceed three meters, with a width of two meters. It is powerful, with strong branches, requiring no additional support. The leaves are dark green, harmoniously combined with the red color of the inflorescences.

Rosa Amadeus embodies natural beauty and luxury. The elegant and sophisticated shape of the flower, the slender silhouette of the bush and the divine aroma delight. The scarlet flame of its velvety petals at the beginning of flowering is complemented by raspberry overflows in the middle of the season and noble burgundy tones in late summer.

A neat, dense elongated bud of a classic shape consists of forty-two petals. It blooms into a flower up to 12 centimeters in diameter. They gather in lush and fragrant brushes: up to nine flowers bloom on one stalk. On average, there are six buds in an inflorescence. The photos of climbing roses, posted in this article, indicate that these flowers will help you beautifully design your site.

This rose looks great in a hedge, by a fence or other buildings on the site. In this article we will talk about the features of planting and caring for this plant, you will find out what care this rose needs in winter.

Landing

A plant needs a well-lit, ventilated area. With a lack of sunlight, the ripening of the stems is delayed, so you should choose places for planting that are illuminated by direct rays for several hours a day and remain in the shade for 2-3 hours. Such a choice will help lengthen the flowering period.

Rosa Amadeus does not tolerate wetlands. In this case, the roots can decay, since they sprout in depth up to two meters. The plant should be planted in September or early spring, but in this case, flowering will be delayed for two weeks. Permeable, loose loam is preferred. For heavy clay, dilution with a small amount of lime is necessary.

For this rose, it is necessary to prepare a bed 50-60 cm wide. Planting pits 50x50x50 cm in size are dug in advance at a distance of a meter. Ten liters of water are poured into each of them overnight, half a bucket of manure, phosphorus-containing fertilizer, and humus are added.

Seedlings preparation

Before planting, seedlings must be prepared - cut the roots, remove long processes, pickle in a weak solution of potassium permanganate, sprinkle with charcoal the location of the buds and then lower the bush into the solution of the biostimulator. It can be a mineral mixture consisting of mullein, clay, 2-3 tablets of phosphorobacterin per ten liters of water (or one tablet of heteroauxin).

After this, the seedling can be lowered into the hole. If planting is done in the fall, then the root of the neck should be covered with soil for ten centimeters. Otherwise, the rose may die in winter. After that, the soil is compacted and watered abundantly. The bush is cut off, retreating from the soil surface about twenty centimeters. If planting is carried out in the spring, the seedling is shortened to 15 cm.

Care

Rosa Amadeus does not need complicated care. A minimum of measures is enough for her:

  • plentiful watering once a week;
  • mulching with sawdust, grass, straw, humus;
  • pruning faded shoots to stimulate the appearance of new buds;
  • regular top dressing.

Since the branches grow quite quickly, it is necessary to think over their direction in advance. When they grow to 50 cm, it is advisable to install vertical supports for the garter. During the season, you may need many of these racks, because each lash expels many lateral processes. So the crown is formed, flowering becomes more and more long and plentiful, and the whole object, which has a bush growing, is completely covered with branches.

Top dressing

Humus, added when planting in the pit, nourishes the rose for two years. Later, the plant will need fertilizer. In the spring, it is necessary to introduce manure, which will give a powerful impetus to the growth of young stems. In autumn, this organic fertilizer is not recommended to be applied, because overgrown shoots will not have time to grow stronger and simply will not tolerate winter.

For autumn dressing, such compounds are suitable:

  • potassium sulfate, calimagnesia, sulfate, potassium chloride;
  • double and simple superphosphate;
  • slaked lime, dolomite flour, chalk, wood ash (compositions containing calcium).

During the growing season, the Amadeus rose should be fed 4-5 times. To nourish the bushes with potassium, you can use this solution:

  • 10 liters of water;
  • 16 g of potassium monophosphate ;
  • 15 g of superphosphate.

In order for roses to get the necessary amount of phosphate, you need to add 10 grams of magnesium sulfate to a bucket of water. For calcium top dressing, you can use a solution of 1 tablespoon of calcium nitrate, diluted in ten liters of water.

Preparing roses for winter

Already in early August, the introduction of nitrogen fertilizers into the soil ceased. They are replaced by a reinforcing winter winter root dressing. It consists of:

  • 25 g of superphosphate;
  • 2.5 g of boric acid (or 3.5 g of borax);
  • 25 g of superphosphate;
  • 10 g of potassium sulfate per 10 liters of water.

This amount is enough to process 4 mΒ² of soil.

After a month, a second reinforcing dressing is carried out, which can be replaced by spraying with the same solutions, but with a three-fold reduced concentration. Shelter of the bush is a mandatory procedure in preparation for the winter. He needs high-quality thermal insulation.

Rosa Amadeus can be sheltered in two ways: by leaving the lashes in place or by removing them from the support.

In the second case, shoots are removed from the rack, old and weak branches are removed, leaving only 12 of the strongest processes. Then they are tied and pressed to the soil, fixing with pegs, covered with spruce branches, and soil is poured on the base. Then the entire structure is covered with a dense film.

Pruning roses for the winter

This work should be carried out when the air temperature drops to –5 Β° C. This will allow the plant to strengthen and not die in winter frost. Pruning roses for the winter involves removing those branches that can harm the climbing rose in winter: for example, become a source of infection for healthy stems. These are shoots with brown or black spots, covered with rust or mold.

It is necessary to remove broken, weakened shoots. Unfallen leaves and faded inflorescences must also be removed. Healthy branches shorten up to thirty centimeters from the surface of the soil. Pruning should be done before sheltering the plants, usually in early November. Prepare the tools in advance - they must be sterile and well ground.

Owner reviews

According to gardeners, Amadeus is the best representative of climbing roses common today. It does not require complicated care, tolerates even very low temperatures and low snow winters. To grow this wonderful plant is even a beginner in floriculture. And its beauty, magnificent aroma make it easy to change the landscape of the garden plot beyond recognition.
