Drywall is an excellent building material, which is mounted quickly and with little or no difficulty. Thanks to its technical characteristics, it allows you to easily create any design of a unique shape. The installation of this material has one nuance that must be considered before starting repairs.
Particular attention should be paid to repairing joints in drywall. If this work is performed incorrectly, this can lead to cracking and also to a reduction in the service life of the structure.
Positive traits
In the process of interior decoration, various materials are used: plastic, wood, etc. But one of the most common options is drywall boards. Due to their properties and characteristics, they have many advantages over other materials.
When working with drywall, it does not matter what condition the wall is in and how many irregularities are on it. The GKL installation process is such that it hides all base defects. One sheet is enough to cover a large area of ββthe wall, which saves time and resources.
Another indisputable advantage is the fact that when wall sheathing when using a profile, and not just glue for GCR, a small gap appears between the wall and the sheet. If necessary, insulation can be put here.
On the surface without any difficulty, you can apply any desired decorative finish. You can stick wallpaper, just paint the walls or apply textured plaster.
As a rule, when working with drywall no difficulties arise. A metal frame is mounted on the wall or a special glue for GCR is used. More often the profile is used, since this makes it possible to lay a heater or soundproofing material under the finish. Sheets are fastened with screws to a metal frame.
After the work done, there comes a moment that requires special attention of the master. After the installation of gypsum plaster, a seam is formed between the sheets. It can be of different thicknesses. Before proceeding with the subsequent finishing work, it is worth performing the repair of drywall seams.
It is also worth considering that if you put a layer of putty without pre-processing the joints, over time the finish will go away and crack. This will spoil the appearance of the walls and the entire interior. Therefore, when filling the joints, it is worth adhering to the established recommendations.
Tool and material
Before starting work, you should prepare a special tool so that in the process of sequential actions there are no difficulties.
When filling in the joints of drywall with your own hands, you will need such tools:
- a bucket for kneading putty;
- electric drill;
- special nozzle;
- putty knife;
- grater;
- reinforcing mesh;
- stationery knife;
- roller.
And you will also need to purchase the necessary material. You will need a special filler for joints, paper tape and mesh for reinforcement.
Preliminary preparation
The process of filling seams is not particularly difficult, but requires certain recommendations.
If you pay attention to the ends of the drywall sheet, you can see that they are different. The factory seam is rounded and the elements used are flat.
In some cases, the standard end may also be flat. However, you still need to process the slices. Gypsum is visible on these surfaces, as well as inside GCR. For this, a clerical knife is used. It must be kept at an angle of 45 Β°. Using this tool, the upper edges are trimmed. A joint is formed, which is cut out. After this, you need to make the seams of drywall.
Termination technology
Before starting work with drywall, it should be primed. This can be done using a roller or crown. After priming, it should be allowed to dry, it takes about an hour. During this time, you can prepare putty for the joints. Today, the range of such products is very diverse. The most popular and well-established brands are:
- Knauf Fugenfuller;
- KREISEL;
- SEMIN.
In principle, you can use any composition. They are all suitable for their characteristics and quality standards.
The selected putty mass should be poured into the working container and, using a mixer, bring to the desired consistency by adding water. Turns on drills need to be set to minimum so that the destructive reaction of reinforcing additives does not occur. This may affect the strength of the mixture. It is also not recommended to mix the old putty with the new mixture. The previously prepared composition must be used up or thrown away. Only after this can a new mass be cooked. After preparing the putty, you can proceed to repairing the seams of the Knauf drywall (work with material from another company is carried out in a similar way).
The solution is applied across the seam and rubbed deep into. It is necessary that the putty fill the joint across the entire thickness. Thus, the seam is filled along the entire length. If it is very large, then the shutdown is carried out in two stages.
Reinforcement
It is worth remembering that it is necessary to use a special tape for sealing joints in drywall, which is made of paper, or a fiberglass mesh for reinforcement. Otherwise, the putty will simply fall out or crack over time, since as it dries, it decreases in volume and falls behind GCR.
During the acquisition of the reinforcing mesh, you need to check its quality. Even a novice master can do it. The grid should be checked for tension, to see how the cells behave. You need to bend it, and then hold it with your hand. If after such tests the net did not burst and did not tear, then this indicates the quality of the product.
For ease of use, the reinforcing mesh is made in rolls. It often has one side self-adhesive, as well as various lengths and widths. When closing gypsum plasterboard seams, a mesh is applied on top of an abundantly applied putty layer. Then, with a strong movement of the spatula, it is rubbed into the solution that has already been applied.
After that, the mesh is immersed in putty and reinforced. Due to this, it does not shrink when dried. Next, align the base with a spatula so that there are no tubercles. Then the working surface should be completely dry. After this, you can further putty GKL.
Grinding
The final stage is the grinding of plastered plasterboard sections.
To do this, you can use sandpaper. But it will be more convenient to grind the surface with a special grater, in which a mesh with the desired cell size is installed. Then the work will be easy and of high quality. It must not be forgotten that the surface should be ground after the solution has completely dried after the gypsum plasterboard joints are sealed with serpianka. Grouting should be done in a circular motion.
Reviews of specialists
When using GCR, experts recommend using the appropriate type of putty to seal drywall joints. And also you need to adhere to the technology of consistent work to obtain a high-quality result for many years.
