Due to its excellent appearance, excellent characteristics and a reasonable price, siding has become one of the most common finishing materials used throughout the world.
It is used not only for facing administrative and industrial premises, but also for putting in order ordinary residential houses. This is especially true of old buildings made of wood.
Therefore, today we will talk about how to sheathe siding at home.
Of course, it is better to entrust many construction works to professionals, but if you have the necessary tools, it is easy to do it yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself too much, then we invite you to read our article!
How to choose the right material
Despite the fact that the modern manufacturing industry offers consumers hundreds of types of this building material, vinyl siding is especially popular. It has a low cost, low weight and ease of installation. In addition, a wide range of "vinyl" includes imitations of wood, stone and other natural materials.
And before lining the house with siding, it does not hurt to walk through construction stores: maybe you will find the “same” option that you have always dreamed about.
To work as convenient as possible, you should free up as much space as possible. It is necessary to remove window sills, downspouts and other massive elements. If many trees grow in a dangerous proximity to the house, then some of them will have to be cut or cut down altogether.
Getting started
Released walls must be checked for evenness. If you plan to mount the siding directly on this surface, you will have to level it. But before lining the house with siding, one should not forget about one circumstance: this material becomes more durable if it is attached over a moisture-resistant base.
In a word, practice clearly shows that you can do without alignment in rare cases. In all other cases, a crate is used, which is mounted from a bar with a section of 40x50 mm or high-quality boards 100x30 mm. You can use slats made of hardwood 50x80 mm. In all cases, they are attached to the walls of wood with nails, the length of which is 100 mm.
Since it is not easy to sheathe a log house with siding (it affects the complete absence of even walls), it is advisable to check everything again with a plumb before starting work.
Start fixing the finishing material from the corner. In no case can you tighten the fasteners “back to back”, since there is always the possibility of thermal expansion of the metal. Between a nail head and a siding it is necessary to leave not less than 1-1,5 mm of free space.
A gap of 5-6 mm is also left between the end of the first panel and the angle. If you are thinking of sheathing a house with siding (the price of the process depends on the cost of the material) in winter, then this interval should be increased to 9-10mm. Fasteners are driven in at a distance of 30-40 cm from each other.
Keep in mind! A self-tapping screw or nail should enter the siding strictly at right angles! If this rule is not observed, then in the future the panels can simply swell.
So you have learned how to sheathe siding at home!
