Grade description
Rosa Floribunda Tom Tom by its external signs is fully consistent with its group affiliation. A compact small bush grows to a maximum of 80 cm in height, and its width is not more than 60 cm. The branches of the plant are straight, the foliage is dark green, matte.
Rosa Tom Tom begins to bloom from the very beginning of summer and adorns the flower garden with its lush terry buds until the autumn cold. The number of buds on one plant can reach up to 20 pieces. Their color is red-pink, neon. An unusual feature of a flower is its ability to change the color of the petals depending on the ambient temperature: in warm weather they are light, and when cold, they darken and become more saturated pink.
The rose itself Tom Tom (flower) contains at least 25 petals. The diameter of the inflorescences reaches 8 cm. During the peak of flowering on the bush, you can see both fully opened cup-shaped roses and buds similar in appearance to the flowers of tea-hybrid roses.
The variety is resistant to many diseases, in particular to powdery mildew and black spotting. Also, the rose Tom Tom perfectly tolerates winter colds, even in conditions of the middle lane. In Siberia and the Urals, this variety needs preparation for winter, but there it has been successfully grown for many years.
Choosing a place to land
Since rose Tom Tom belongs to the Floribunda variety, open areas that are illuminated by the sun and blown by the wind are ideal for growing it. It looks great in combination with evergreen low shrubs, conifers and other varieties of roses. Since the height of the plant is relatively small, it is best to place it along the edge of the flower bed, along paths or borders.
Soil rose Tom Tom prefers loose and relatively light (but not sandy). It is undesirable to plant this variety in places where water stagnates in spring or autumn, as this can lead to the death of the plant.
Planting roses
A place for planting roses must be prepared in advance. To do this, dig a standard-sized landing pit (40 x 40 x 40 cm) and fill it with water. After complete absorption of moisture, they fill the pit with nutritious soil, consisting of an equal amount of humus and garden soil. A rose seedling is placed vertically in a prepared hole and carefully sprinkled with soil.
Rose Floribunda Tom Tom requires sufficient space around the bush for normal development. Ideally, the planting scheme should meet the parameters of 40 x 60 cm. With more free space, a flower bed with roses can overgrow with weeds. With a decrease in the distance between the bushes, there is a high risk of infection of roses with fungal diseases due to the fact that sunlight and air currents do not reach each plant.
Shaping, pruning
Pruning a bush is a fundamental factor in the rejuvenation and healing of roses of any variety. Rosa Tom Tom should also undergo this procedure regularly. Only in this case, one can expect lush and prolonged flowering from it. The main thing in pruning is not to overdo it and not to remove most of the shoots, as in this case it is possible to weaken the bush and stop flowering for at least one season.
Pruning of roses should be carried out before the start of growth, in late February or early March. Young shoots, as a rule, shorten by no more than a third of their length (maximum 6-8 buds). Old shoots can be shortened by half or even more. This pruning scheme works in two directions: in this case, young shoots form a growth that begins to bloom in early summer, and powerful root shoots grow on old branches, blooming in the second half of summer. This ensures continuous flowering of roses of this variety.
With the onset of sustained cold weather, it is necessary to carry out sanitary pruning and shorten the shoots. Then the bush is covered with spruce branches and, if necessary, with any covering material (lutrasil or spanbond).
