The Chinese method of growing onions on the ridges: a description of the technology, the preparation of seed

Today, such a promising occupation as growing onions is fully justified. As a business, it is quite cost-effective and profitable. In general, in order to get a good crop of vegetables, the gardener needs to know some features. And growing onions as a business does require a special approach. You should choose the right variety for planting, carry out all the work on time, know how to deal with pests.

But the most important thing is to choose the right method of cultivation in order to get a good harvest. Subject to all agricultural standards, even a beginner will be able to collect twenty-five percent more of this incredibly healthy vegetable.

Chinese way of growing onions: technology description

This is a pretty interesting method. In our country, it is practiced relatively recently. However, judging by the reviews, Russian summer residents liked the Chinese way of growing onions. Many are already used to the fact that the bed before planting should be ideally smoothed with a rake. But it turns out that the Chinese are doing just the opposite. Vegetable growers of the Middle Kingdom plant bulbs on the crest of high beds. They make it a hoe.

The benefits of growing onions on the combs

It turns out that there are many of them. Firstly, the bulbs in this case grow very quickly. This makes it possible to increase the yield by a quarter, and sometimes by forty percent. In addition, the Chinese method of growing onions is less time-consuming, since loosening, weeding and watering the bed is much easier and more convenient than with a conventional planting. In addition, the upper part of the plant receives more sunlight, and this helps to strengthen immunity to various diseases.

Growing onions as a business

Other advantages of this method include significant additional fertilizing, since the nutrients are practically not washed from the beds, as well as the fact that harvesting is much easier.

Seed preparation

It should be carefully sorted, discarding all dry, damaged and sluggish bulbs. After all, the crop depends on this, which will please the new method. After this, slightly warm the sevok. To do this, onions need to be scattered with a thin layer on a relatively thick paper and put them in the warmest place. After half a day, planting material is already ready for placement in the ground. Warming protects the plant from shooting, pests, rot on the neck, powdery mildew, etc.

Prior to planting on the garden bed, it is imperative to cut off the dry part of the neck of each bulb with sharp scissors, remove the dried husk and soak the seeds in warm water. A small amount of slurry can be added to the liquid. In this way, growth can be accelerated and crop yields affected. Before planting, the liquid must be drained, and the bulbs dried for several minutes in the open air.

The timing

Few people know that the time when it is best to plant this crop can be suggested by the planting material itself, or rather its size. Bulbs with a diameter of up to ten millimeters are best used for the winter. At the beginning of April, fifteen-, and in the first half of May twenty-millimeter sevka will do. Large specimens (about 40 mm) are placed on the ridges solely to produce a feather.

The best time for planting onions in open ground is the season when the average daily temperature does not drop below ten degrees of heat.

Landing place

The planting of onion sevka according to Chinese technology can take place in those areas where pumpkin or cabbage, lettuce, cucumbers or tomatoes, legumes, etc. were grown before. If there is no such place, then you should prepare the soil in advance, preferably even in the fall. For this, the soil must be dug up, a mixture of dung humus, superphosphate, nitrophoska, chalk or dolomite flour introduced into it.

Closer to the time of disembarkation, for example, in mid-April, it is better to re-dig the prepared area and, if necessary, moisten it. Then it must be divided into ridges having a height of about twenty centimeters in height and a distance between them of thirty. It is necessary to approximately calculate the number of ridges in order to be able to completely arrange the planting material in compliance with the required distance.

Landing

Today, many are already using the Chinese method of cultivation in their gardens. Onions on the crests can be collected much more. And what else does a gardener need besides a rich and healthy harvest? True, there is one “but”: turnips turn out to be somewhat flattened, but this does not affect taste.

Onion planting

As already mentioned, the Chinese way of growing onions from the usual differs in the place of planting. That is, planting material does not go deep into even ground, but on the ridges of the beds - on hills that are prepared in advance. You can create them with a chopper. To do this, you need to dig along the line of landing the so-called rovers - channels.

Growing onions in the Chinese way involves placing planting material on the ridges with deepening it in the ground for two or three centimeters. The ground around each onion should be slightly nailed with a chopper. Seals are not required. The soil around the seed must always remain loose so as not to impede the access of oxygen.

Care

The rules for growing onions planted in the Chinese way are quite simple. They are much simpler than in the case of a normal landing. First of all, care consists in proper watering. In the first month after the onion is planted by the Chinese method, it should be carried out twice a month, subject to the presence of rain in between. Watering should be plentiful. And if there is no precipitation, then the amount of moisture supply must be increased to three or four times depending on the weather.

Chinese onion cultivation

About twenty days before harvesting , stop watering completely. In the process of leaving, care must be taken to ensure that there is no stagnation of water in the ridges. Otherwise, the risk of rot on the necks increases greatly.

Top dressing

Cultivation of onions according to Chinese technology involves three times feeding. The first should be carried out two weeks after disembarkation. Feeding should consist of mullein or bird droppings diluted with water. The second time fertilizer is applied in mid-June under the onion root. For this, a solution of potassium salt, urea and phosphorus-containing fertilizing is used. The third time you need to fertilize during the period when the onion heads begin to form.
