Hydrangea is a bushy plant that grows in partial shade or in a sunny place. It responds well to fertile and drainage soil, abundant watering, protection against frost. It belongs to the decorative detachment, although it has a two-meter height. It has oblong, oval leaves with pointed ends, each side of which has its own color: the bottom is light green, the top is dark green. Inflorescences are plentiful, large - up to 35 cm in length, resembling pyramids in shape. The color is white and yellow, later a slight red color appears. The hydrangea garden shows its flowers very beautifully . She collects them in inflorescences in the form of an umbrella with a maximum diameter of 35 cm. In the south of Ukraine and the Caucasus, hydrangea cultivation in open ground is very common.
Breeding methods
Hydrangea cultivation is produced in several ways. The most common are carried out in the spring by scattering seeds in unheated greenhouses or cooked boxes with shelter. Do not sprinkle with earth from above. In order to avoid flushing of seeds during irrigation, a sprayer is used. Shoots in the greenhouse to the prepared bed for the next year.
Layering
Growing hydrangea using this method involves the use of young and strong shoots. A branch is bent to the ground, from above for a load they are pressed with a pebble or ground. The top of the shoot is tied to a stake. The following year, the rooted branch is cut from the main bush.
Cuttings
Cuttings are used to grow hydrangeas as a houseplant. Rooted cuttings with two pairs of leaves in a mixture of peat and sand. But before that, they are treated with a stimulant to form roots. Rooting takes a couple of weeks, the first inflorescences appear in the second year. In order for the garden hydrangea to bloom in the first year, the cultivation is carried out according to a specially developed breeding technology.
Houseplant transplant
After rooting the cuttings, hydrangea cultivation proceeds to the next stage. Seedlings are transplanted into small pots. Peat, sand, sheet soil in equal proportions are used for the soil. As the bushes grow, a secondary transplant is carried out in a large capacity. You can add dolomite flour to the soil - this is an excellent top dressing.
Care
The most important thing for this bush is abundant and timely watering, as well as the landing site. Many varieties of hydrangeas adore darkened places, practically cease to grow in sunny places, flowers become small. This bush does not tolerate rammed earth, so it is necessary to loosen the soil around it - at least three times per season. But growing hydrangea is not complete without the use of top dressing. Dung slurry as top dressing combined with watering. A timely application of fertilizers will contribute to the overall development of the bush. In spring, when the kidneys are at rest, frozen and weak branches are cut. One-year-old shoots are cut into three, four kidneys. Such pruning will enhance the frost resistance of the bush and its splendor during flowering. Old roots are removed to the very bottom.
