Watercolor
Watercolor paint consists of two main components: a coloring (mainly natural) pigment and a bonding base in the form of a water-soluble glue. Dyes are most often diluted with gum arabic, but dextrin or other types of glue are used in inexpensive products. Additionally, watercolor contains plasticizers: honey, glycerin or molasses. Also in the composition there are preservatives that prevent the growth of bacteria, and wetting agents so that the paint lies evenly on the paper.
There are several types of watercolors: dry, honey, liquid, soft and semi-solid. All of them have different properties and characteristics.
Expensive products are characterized by a high content of dyes, high light fastness and color fastness. And it is a good, high-quality paint that gives the most persistent watercolor stains.
Removal Methods
Watercolors are made on a water basis, so they must dissolve in water. And if the stain is fresh, it must be immediately rinsed under a cold stream. Hot water is contraindicated, since an elevated temperature will fix the dye on the fabric.
Fresh watercolor stains that were put no later than 3-5 hours ago are well removed.
In order to remove watercolor from the fabric, you can apply the following methods:
- Dried stains before washing should be rubbed with laundry soap and wait at least an hour. Then wash as usual.
- With a watercolor, a 1.5 times increased dose of baby powder will help. You just need to add it to the machine when washing.
- You can remove a watercolor stain from colored fabrics with a stain remover, and from white with bleach.
- If the fabric has a stable pattern and it does not belong to delicate products, then you can remove the pollution with the help of hot vinegar. It is necessary to moisten a cotton pad in heated vinegar and apply to the stain, and then wash. But this method can not be used on silk or delicate matter, first you need to conduct a test for resistance in an inconspicuous area.
- A universal mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide 3% in equal proportions will help to cope with the stain. It must be applied to the stain and add a little hot water.
- From thick and dense fabrics, watercolor can simply be scraped off dry.
- Glycerin will help to cope with a stain from watercolor paint on clothes. It is applied to a cotton pad and pressed to a contaminated area. The exposure time is 15-20 minutes.
How to remove watercolor stains from different types of fabrics
Each type of fabric uses its own method of removing contaminants. Cotton items are placed in a hot solution of two liters of water, a couple of tablespoons of soda and shavings from a large piece of laundry soap. The stain from the wool is removed only with laundry soap, repeating the process as many times as necessary until complete cleansing. Watercolor from natural silk is removed either with laundry soap or with heated alcohol - a stain is wiped with it, then it is dried with a napkin and sprinkled with talcum powder. From a synthetic canvas, the ammonia will be washed off with a watercolor paint or saline solution.
If none of the methods worked, then you can mask the stain. Since we are talking about children's clothing, embroideries, appliqués and decorative pockets will look good on it.
