Brief historical background
Buhund, or Norwegian husky, is considered one of the oldest Scandinavian dogs. In 1880, a Viking burial place was found on the territory of Gokstad. Along with them were excavated six dog skeletons of various sizes. It is these animals that are considered to be the ancestors of modern bukhundas.
The Vikings used these dogs to protect livestock and protect their homes. They also hunted wolves and bears. These northern dogs everywhere followed their owners, accompanying them not only on land but also at sea. Over time, they came to Ireland, Greenland and Scotland. According to one theory, the ancestors of modern Buhund were Sheltie and Icelandic dogs.
The first official exhibition, in which representatives of this breed participated, was organized by John Sealand. It took place in the 20s of the XX century in Norwegian Jeren. After several decades, the breed was recognized by the United Dog Club.
Exterior Features
Buhund, or Norwegian Shepherd, is a sturdy, compact dog of square format. On the dry, pointed head are dark small eyes and pointed pointed ears. The massive short neck of the representatives of this breed smoothly flows into a strong, well-defined withers and a straight back.

Character
These are bold, playful and friendly dogs. They are distinguished by an independent character with well-developed hunting instincts. Therefore, a typical Norwegian husky is wary of strangers and animals. These are very vigilant dogs, always ready to rush to defend their "flock."
Representatives of this breed make excellent guide and companions. Despite their friendly and affectionate disposition, emotional bukhundy instantly respond to any extraneous sounds. Norwegian buhund retains a mischievous and playful character to a very old age. It treats children well, but in a fit of feelings, it can accidentally turn a baby over.

Maintenance and care
