From the history of the breed

For its breeding, the blood of dog breeds with hard hair was added to smooth-haired individuals, including terriers: scotch terrier, dandy-dinmont, fox terrier and some others. Perhaps participation in the formation of the breed and schnauzer. The problem was that breeders dreamed of leaving the typical structure of the classic dachshund, its hunting qualities, flair, courage, anger towards the beast, voice unchanged.

Wire-haired dachshund in Russia
Wire-haired dachshunds first appeared on the territory of the Soviet Union and Russia in 1946. At the international exhibition in 1947, four individuals were already registered. But this variety did not become very popular among Russian hunters, so there are few working dogs with field diplomas listed in the stud book. Appearance
Probably, it’s not worth saying that all the dachshunds are outwardly very funny, but the wire-haired dachshund can perhaps be considered the leader in the nomination “the most unusual appearance” among all types of dachshunds. Unusual wool is added to the crooked legs and the stretched body. In these dogs it is straight, thick, stiff, not more than three centimeters long. She is tight to the body. Well developed undercoat. The unusual structure of the coat makes it practically invulnerable to dirt; it justifies itself in our climate during walks in the winter. Caring for her is simple. It consists in regularly combing the hair with a comb or brush. The dog also needs trimming. If you cannot do this yourself, consult a specialist, otherwise the animal will suffer.
Wire-haired dachshund can be of different colors, mainly one-color or two-color, in addition, there are tiger, marble and spotted colors. The most valuable is considered dark red.

Nutrition
Experienced dog handlers and dog breeders recommend combining dry feed with natural nutrition. You can feed as one type of food, or mixing natural food with dry or canned food of high quality.
Of natural products, the adult dachshund is wire-haired, puppies after three months should receive cottage cheese, low-fat meat, kefir, vegetable proteins. Dachshund products from your table are strictly contraindicated.
The basic rule of feeding these dogs is not to overfeed. Overweight and obesity can seriously affect your pet’s health. Up to four months, it is advisable to feed the puppy no more than four times a day. Then, up to six months - no more than three times. From six months to the end of life - no more than twice a day.
Rabbit Dachshund (wire-haired)
This species differs from its “relatives” primarily in its miniature size. Her height does not exceed 15 cm, weight not more than 3.5 kg.
This is a dachshund with a long body and short legs. Her body is elastic and muscular, the backbone is powerful.
The head of a rabbit dachshund, despite the elongation, is not too pointed to the nose. In relation to the body, it is quite massive. Ears are hanging, tightly attached to the cheekbones, they are elongated, but not too much. Eyes of medium size, painted in various shades of brown, are very rare, but dogs with blue eyes are found. The coat is tough enough. It resembles a wire. The body fits snugly along the entire length, has an undercoat.

The rabbit dachshund is friendly in relation to people, despite the excellent hunting instinct and the quite developed skills of the guard dog, the small pet creates a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere in the house. During the hunting season, the tireless energy of the dog makes it demonstrate various funny tricks and amuse its owners.
