Sheremetyevo terminals: how to get there?

Sheremetyevo International Airport is perhaps the most famous Russian airport. This is not just a large landing site for airplanes, it is a whole city living its own life. Sheremetyevo terminals are a clear indicator of the development of architectural thought over the years. Initially, the civilian airport was conceived as a Soviet response to London Heathrow Airport, which at one time struck the imagination of N. S. Khrushchev. That is why architects, designing the airport, implemented all their creative ideas.

Military roots

Long before the Sheremetyevo passenger terminals appeared, a strategic military airport was built near the village of Chashnikov. Its entire infrastructure was created for military needs. A small military town, barracks, warehouses with combustible materials, its own concrete production plant and an airfield were built on the territory of the facility. The runway was significantly strengthened so that heavy strategic long-range missile carriers could land on it.

However, this was not enough for the normal operation of the airport. Soon, aircraft parking spaces, a command and control center, indoor hangars, radar stations, a visual display system for the runway and a central control center were erected on its territory. Already in 1957, the new airport received about 20 long-range strategic bombers. Active operation of the facility began.

The civilian history of the airport began after N.S. Khrushchev visited the capital of Great Britain. The huge civilian airport of Heathrow is the first thing the Soviet leader in the UK saw. N.S. Khrushchev was struck by this and ordered the construction of an airport to begin, which could be compared with the English. Its first terminals appeared in 1959. The airport received the official name Sheremetyevo.

The new civilian airport inherited the entire military infrastructure. The armed forces of the USSR no longer had any relation to him.

The first full-fledged terminal was the Sheremetyevo-1 complex. This building was built according to the project, corresponding to the architectural spirit of those times. For the unusual design of this complex, the people nicknamed the "glass".

The structure of the modern airport

Today, the airport has grown significantly in size. The new Sheremetyevo terminals provide impressive throughput. At the airport there are terminals:

  • A;
  • IN;
  • FROM;
  • D;
  • E;
  • F.

Initially, all these airport complexes were separate structures, but in 2010, restructuring of the complexes and rationalization were carried out. The result of the events was the unification of the terminals D, E, F into one large complex, which was called the Southern Airport Complex. All terminals were connected by spacious pedestrian galleries.

Terminal E

There are many ways to get to the object, one of them is the aeroexpress train to Sheremetyevo. Terminal E has its own stop and is located between two other terminals - D and F. It is quite new, because it was put into operation in 2010.

This is a modern and technologically advanced three-story railway station complex with tremendous bandwidth, essential for the entire Sheremetyevo International Airport. Terminal E receives aircraft from international and domestic destinations. Transition to terminals D and F is carried out directly without leaving the airport complex. To ensure the accessibility of all complexes, a free internal bus is available.

Inconvenient terminal

Any major airport is famous for the fact that some terminals are located very uncomfortable. It happens that passengers arriving at the airport 5 hours before departure are late for the flight because they could not find their terminal.

The territory of the airport complexes is huge. It is not surprising that passengers have a search query β€œHow to get to Sheremetyevo. Terminal C is one of the most popular. Indeed, the terminal is located uncomfortably. Often people do not even realize that they have already reached the airport, but simply could not find the desired terminal.

The easiest way to get into it is to use the services of a free bus that runs between the terminals. We must not forget that the journey time can take as long as 30 minutes. You should always leave in advance.

The road by car is not difficult, but not everyone has it. If you go along the Leningradskoye Shosse and turn onto Sheremetyevskoye, you will immediately see the designation of Sheremetyevo Airport. Terminal C is located near this turn and is part of the Sheremetyevo-1 complex.

Terminal for wealthy passengers

In order to ensure comfort for wealthy passengers, Terminal A was built. This is a purely specialized airport complex designed for business aviation, as well as representatives of state authorities.
