Types of arches
Arches in the interior are monolithic concrete, gypsum, brick and wood (beech, oak, pine).
The door and window opening may have a lancet or round shape. Arches with a round contour are divided into several types:

Brick arches

Wooden arches
Such openings are made of unified glued blocks rigidly connected in intermediate nodes.

In the first method, the fastening of the joints is usually carried out by special metal plates that are pulled together by bolts. Wooden elements are cut along the necessary contour from a piece of wood according to a given pattern.
This method is quite simple, but has a number of disadvantages, since wood in the places of bends is often split along the length of the fibers, which negatively affects the strength of the manufactured elements.
The wooden arches in the second method are made of softened wooden elements, previously boiled or steamed in metal forms.
The element is placed in a container with boiling water and aged for several hours with constant boiling water. Then, in the place of the bend, the necessary mechanical stress is created to give the structure the desired shape. For this purpose, a variety of devices that resemble pipe bending machines are used. The element is fixed in the desired position until dry. The wood fibers then take a stable form with the physicomechanical properties of a straight piece. To make the same bent elements, it is necessary to perform a bend in special conductors.
In the third method, thin strips of wood are glued to a wooden block in places where the arch element is convex.
Arches in the interior can be completed by purchasing components in the retail network. The joints are fastened with metal plates, tightened by bolts, which are closed with decorative panels.
