Materials

So how to make a dress from newspapers? First of all, we will need any unnecessary newspapers read and used, glue, a lot of scotch tape, a stapler, salt and dress, a mannequin or a living model.

Beginning of work

The first stage is preparatory. After all, making dresses from newspapers is not easy. We take newspapers prepared in advance, cut them all into strips of ten centimeters wide and each fold longitudinally four times to make the paper thicker and much stronger. Now we challenge our living model (we take a mannequin or measure everything according to another dress) and put two strips on her shoulders, like shoulder straps. Send two more elements taken to the hollow between the breasts at an angle of forty degrees to get a classic neckline in the shape of the letter ā€œVā€. Wrap the other end of the strips around the shoulders or neck to form the neck of the dress. We fasten everything with a stapler or simple glue. We take two more pieces of paper and wrap the model under our arms, forming the basis for the sleeves. The ends of the strips are attached to the shoulder straps.

Stage Two: Solution Preparation

Newspaper dresses need something to hold together. For this purpose we are preparing a special mixture of PVA glue and plain water. We add two tablespoons of salt to it, mix thoroughly.

Stage Three: Coating

The base for the dress is already there. Now we take long strips, lower them into the solution and apply them around the body so that part of the back and neck remain open. Layers of newspapers should be no more than four. All leave to dry. We get the scissors, cut it on the back (in the back of our bodice), punch holes for lacing and leave to dry. Choose long stripes and add them vertically to the base, simply repeating the natural forms of a living model or a favorite dress. The ends of the strips must be glued or stitched together, to whom it is convenient. To make the dress longer, just add more and more elements.

Skirt shape

Dresses from newspapers can be made very different: straight, the sun, with wedges, even with the likeness of a crinoline. If you want to fold the skirt, you need to fold the newspaper sheets so that they turn out to be an accordion (that is, alternate in different directions). It will take about twenty sheets for this. Having sewed or glued them together, we attach all this to a ready-made corset (you can, by the way, use adhesive tape as well). From the inside, the entire dress must be glued with tape to make it stronger and not to let the newspapers burst. Around the neck, hem and waist of the layers of adhesive tape it is better to make several, more reliable. In places of joints and gaps, it is also worth strengthening the dress with the help of the same adhesive tape.

The final stage

Dresses from newspapers (photos show this very clearly) seem light, weightless, as if they were easy to tear. In fact this is not true. To strengthen the product, a layer of varnish or glue is applied on top. So the paper will not stain the skin, will not be able to damp and tear. However, you still need to wear such an outfit carefully and with outside help. For decoration, a variety of tinsel, sparkles, stickers, bows are quite suitable. It should be worn carefully, beingware of water, strong winds, fire and sudden movements.
