Gorky Park (Rostov-on-Don) is a gift to contemporaries from all previous generations of citizens who have been caring for their favorite vacation spot for two hundred years.
History
Gorky Park (Rostov-on-Don) was established in 1813 on the basis of the gardens of the mayor A. Yashchenko, which he transferred to the city as a gift. Through the efforts of several public organizations, alleys were laid, infrastructure was created, flower beds were planted, arbors were built. Initially, the park consisted of several small landscaped gardens, the union took place in 1890. Around this period, the upper and lower parks formed, which received the common name "Flower Gardens".
Since 1840, the first wooden city theater worked in the garden along Kuznetskaya Street, a few years later the Rotonda club appeared, also made of wood, a stone building for the club was built in 1893. From the side of Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, the park was decorated with an open variety platform. At the end of the 19th century, the architect N. Doroshenko designed the openwork lattice for the park, which the city authorities established for everyone's pleasure.
The fountain, the work of architect V. Shpitko, appeared in the park in 1894 and has survived to this day. On the middle park terrace, a swimming pool was arranged, surrounded by elegant arbors and sculptural compositions. The lower part of the recreation area was equipped with fountains, a grotto and a pond where swans settled. Flowerbeds and lawns regularly changed their patterns, establishing a fashion for flower beds on an urban scale. The public was surprised by the decorative overseas plants - cypresses, tamarisks, etc. A major reconstruction took place in the park after the revolution in 1926-1927.
Description
During the war, Gorky Park (Rostov-on-Don) suffered great damage. Recovery was in the post-war forties and fifties. The artist A. Chernovol took an active part in the work and planning of the recreation area. With his submission, flower arrangements were made out, posters for holiday dates were written, the carpet calendar created from flowering plants enjoyed special care of the master and the love of the townspeople.
Today, Maxim Gorky Park (Rostov-on-Don) continues to be a favorite vacation spot for most citizens. Monuments in the park
Gorky Park has been living for more than 200 years, time and people have not always been kind to him, but in the alleys and corners the memory of many generations of citizens is hidden. Terraces of the park change little with the advent of new times, but retain many of the signs of the past, one of them is the monuments. At the main entrance, on a pedestal, stands a bronze figure of the leader of the world proletariat V.I. Lenin. At the opposite end of the park is a monument to the Heroes of the October Revolution.
Times have changed, and already in the 2000s a city sculpture of a completely different kind appeared. In 2007, on one of the alleys appeared a sculpture of a barefoot flower girl, nicknamed by the townspeople “a girl with ice cream”.
Mr. Baykov, one of the best city heads, grateful descendants erected a monument in 2013 as a sign of respect. It is located in front of the park entrance from the city administration. The famous mayor is known for his administrative talent. His cares in the city established a library, stock exchange, founded several educational institutions. When it was laid, water supply, the streets received lighting, a fire brigade started, city public transport was launched, telephone communications and much more.
On one side of the central entrance to the park there is a colorful monument to the removed merchant-peddler and his cat. The monument was erected not so long ago, but overgrown with signs and legends. It is believed that if you throw a coin into the box, then the donor will be financially fortunate, and if you pet the cat with hollow clothes, then good luck in your endeavors will follow.
