The beaches of Montenegro are the main wealth of the country. Here, on 73 km of the coast, you can find beaches for every taste: sandy, pebble, rocky, with a gentle slope, wild and even nudist. They all have only one constant - unsurpassed purity of water.
When is Montenegro a beach holiday season?
You can’t say exactly when the swimming season will open in the country, because it depends on the air temperature in the spring. If it is warm enough, the season opens at the end of May. If the air is cool in spring, then it is better to visit the beaches of Montenegro starting from mid-June. The season usually closes in mid-September, although in good years people bathe in October. August is considered the peak of the season, at this time on the most popular beaches (especially in Budva) there is a very large crowd of people. If you do not like to crowd, as in an anthill, then choose low-populated beaches or another month to travel to the country.
What are the beaches in Montenegro?
Montenegro is a mountainous country, therefore its banks are indented with picturesque bays and capes. For this reason, sandy beaches are found only in the south of the country. The rest of the coast is rocky or covered with large pebbles. This is not always convenient for tourists, so the management of the beaches falls asleep with smaller pebbles.
That is why almost the entire coast has a mixed coating - small-coarse pebble. Sometimes sand is also brought, but it is washed away.

Clean beaches in the country
In Montenegro there is no concept of a “private beach”, all of them are state property and are leased. The rules for using them are approved at the legislative level. The tenant must monitor the state of its territory year-round (even when the season is closed). In the summer, the entrepreneur undertakes to clean the beach daily. Also, by law, only half of the territory can be forced by sunbeds, the rest of the land is provided to lovers to sunbathe on a towel for free.
However, this rule does not apply to all territories of the country. By law, entry into the sea should only be free; nearby you can’t even install small fences for beauty.
At peak times, the most popular beaches can be slightly dirty, as garbage men clean morning and evening, and the crowds of people striving for beaches are huge. In other months or on the most visited beaches it is very clean.
Budva beaches

- Mogren is a small pebble and romantic beach of Budva. On both sides of the cliff, the total length is 340 meters. That is why there is so little space in the season - there are too many who want to enjoy the beautiful landscape.
- Slavic beach is the noisiest and rave place of the coast in the whole country. It is located in the very center of Budva, therefore the infrastructure is developed with a bang. The area is full of shops, cafes and other entertainment.
- Jaz is a sandy beach of Montenegro. In some places, sand is mixed with pebbles, but this does not deter tourists. It is difficult to get here on foot, it is better to go by taxi or bus.
- Guvanza - popular due to its comfortable sandy entrance to the sea and incredibly beautiful sunsets. The coast is only 145 meters long, and the beach is relatively calm and there is no crowding.
- Beaches on Sveti Nikola - this piece of land on the island is beautiful, comfortable and relatively free. There are no such crowds of vacationers as on Mogren or Slavic beach. It is best to sunbathe and swim at the local Hawaiian beach.
Bar Coast

Tivat beaches
