Cold porcelain is a mass resembling plasticine or polymer clay. Ideal for all types of work. It dries quickly, after which it becomes very hard. It is absolutely harmless, therefore it can be entrusted to children without fear.
Cold porcelain can be bought or cooked at home. There is usually only one mass on sale - white. To obtain different colors, dyes are added to it. You can also paint the finished figure with acrylic paints. Sometimes on sale you can see cold flesh-colored porcelain . It is usually used for sculpting parts of the body.
If you decide to sculpt cold porcelain products, then, in addition to the mass itself, you will need: a set of special sticks (stacks), rolling pins, silicone molds (leaves, flowers), molds for flat figures, acrylic glue, toothpicks (for small flowers) , wire for flowers, a syringe with holes (or an extruder), varnish (glossy or matte).
At home, cold porcelain can be prepared in two ways - on fire and in the microwave. In this article we will tell you how to cook a mass for modeling in the oven.
To do this, you will need the following components: 2 small cups of cornmeal, 2 small mugs of PVA glue, 10 milliliters of lemon juice, 20 milliliters of petroleum jelly or glycerin, 1 milliliter of hand cream (preferably non-greasy), a wooden spoon and a glass bowl.
Cooking Algorithm:
1. Mix all ingredients (except cream) in a glass bowl. Mix well into a homogeneous mass.
2. Put the bowl in the microwave for three minutes at maximum temperature. In this case, once a minute, mix the dough with a wooden spoon so that all components undergo the same high temperature treatment. If necessary, you can hold the dough in the microwave for another 2-3 minutes, not forgetting to stir it.
After processing the dough in the oven, you need to knead it well with your hands. To do this, distribute 10 milliliters of
hand cream evenly over a smooth surface. Put the hot mass on the cream and start kneading it with your hands. Remember, the longer you do this, the easier it will be to work later.
Then roll the mass into a roller and wrap it in cling film. Avoid prolonged exposure to cold porcelain in the air! Because of this, it can lose its qualities and dry out!
How to color cold porcelain? To obtain the desired color, just add oil paint to the mass. So you can get both bright and pastel colors. Food coloring is also allowed.
Tip: when making crafts from cold porcelain in silicone form, use a cream. This is necessary so that the mass does not stick to the silicone walls.
Before starting work, there is no need to apply cream on hands, since cold porcelain is not sticky.
From this material it is convenient to create realistic flowers and bouquets, various delicate details,
wall panels, small figures and figurines. Unfortunately, decorations made of cold porcelain are short-lived, as this material is “afraid” of water and high humidity. For this reason, after the figure has frozen, it must be painted and varnished.
